I am returning this to Amazon as it is junk

Trying to authorize this modem on the Xfinity website I could not do it. Call customer service and the serial number that accompanied the modem did not match the modem so they couldn't authorize it. The girl finally after putting me on hold for about 15 minutes got it to work and top download speed was 23 MBps. I am returning this to Amazon as it does not work. Went back to my old Motorola SB 6120 and it works fine speed is back up connection is fine no issues I guess if it's old and it still works leave it alone no matter what Comcast says
Great for the price.

I got this cable modem to use with TWC Oceanic based solely on price for the features I was looking for. It works with no problems so far, it's been up about 2 months. The only downside is that the housing has no large flat surface if you want to hang it on a wall. The plastic housing flares at the bottom to form a base that it stands on, this is visible in the pictures. Based on my research this modem uses the same chipset as other popular modems that cost more. Years ago SMC was a big name in networking but over the last decade they seem to have faded a bit in popularity. I never had any issues with their products in the past.
Don't spend that extra 20$ for a more recognizable brand unless you like their logo.

Boots up very quickly. Works perfectly with Metrocast (Maryland). And is very easy to set up...hook up the cable...power on...call your cable internet provider and give them the MAC address (4 extra stickers with this info come in the box as well) and you're in business. Down/Up streams max out (100% of the speed I'm paying for, I'm getting). Worth noting that it's small-medium sized for a cable modem, very nice case and LED colors/intensity are not annoying. Highly recommend. And if you're looking for a router...I'm have great success (and customization) with a TP-Link Archer series.
My first and last SMC modem

Add another to the list of quick-to-fail hardware. It was running fine at 200 Mbps for about 6 months and then began locking up requiring a power cycle. That worked for 1-3 days before it happened again and again. I noticed the main CPU with the heatsink was extremely hot, so I turned it so the heatsink was facing upward which helped in the time between lockups. Then I installed a cooling fan, which did resolve the lockup issue, but several days later I began getting horrendous packet loss (~25%). Hopefully their warranty support is a better experience.
Edit: SMC apparently does not have a procedure to provide warranty support for consumer products, so the 2-year warranty on this product is meaningless.

Poor performance

I have Comcast 75Mb service. I had a very old zoom 5341J (8x4) running until it died. I put back in my even older Zoom 5341 (4x4) modem while I looked for a replacement. I tried the Arris SB6141 (8x4) which worked well until it died. So I decided to try something else and liked the idea of this 16x4 model. However, once I replaced the Zoom, it would only achieve 55 Mb/s download. I tried multiple power resets, but even though it bonded with 16 download channels I would peak about 55 Mb/s. I put the very old Zoom (4x4) back in and it went back to 82Mb/s, There are no configurable parameters. I had expected at least the same performance and possibly better than the very old Zoom.
