Knife appears to be nice. That said the post inside the handle is not steal all the way down to the end of the handle and cutting into a cantaloupe snapped the back of the handle. When I pulled it apart I found that the steal stops about half the way down the handle which is where it broke. For simple chopping it is probably OK. Trying to put patrol boxes for scouts together and needed a good knife, so I really wanted this knife to work out. In the end I would not buy it again.
good sharp knives, cheap plastic frame

great sharp knifes, hope the sharpness lasts.
the stand is great because it's transparent,
BUT
the frame, even though from Cuisineart, is cheap quality:
1. cheap plastic +++update 2017-04-26: cut semi-soft cheese & knife handle broke! cheap sh_t ($36 but still)!+++
2. frame edge should be clear too ; )
3. good industrial design hides - does not show - screws. this feels not like design but a homemaker tooling something rough together in a garage. it feels like our typical American industrial design (except for Apple): cheap / garage-like / unfinished / unslick / superficial.

First impressions are very good, but I see where other reviewers have complained about the too-soft grips and potential for coming off...this is why I give it 4 stars. I don't think I would have minded an injection-molded plastic grip. Mine seem ok, though, but I've been mindful of it during use. The knives cut very well, are comfortable to hold, and the holder is a nice visual touch over traditional wooden blocks. The only setback is that because the knives stand vertically, I do have to tip the holder forward so that the longer knives clear the cabinet above them.
Five Stars

I bought the 6 inch and the 8 inch versions of this knife. Initially it was great. Comfortable to use and extremely sharp. After three months, the handle became loose leading to a great sense of insecurity when using it. Lifetime warranty - Cuisinart replaced it but for some odd reason they couldn't find a 6 inch version so they sent me an 8 inch instead. Tossed into a cardboard box with no protection what so ever. Nearly sliced my hand up opening the box.
This 8 inch replacement for the 6 inch had the handle crack in three weeks. These knives ARE NOT abused in any way. They're just junk and at the moment I'm waiting for them to replace the replacement knife.

dangerous

The handle on this knife has broken in my hands. They replaced it under the lifetime warranty and it broke again and inferred that I was abusing the knife but since mine is not the only review here with a picture of the exact same failure I don't agree. Cuisinart offered a "full refund". Only when you tell them that you'll accept the refund do you find out that it does NOT include sales tax and it does NOT include shipping. So, in effect, its not truly a full refund.
Having worked for two of their competitors I can tell you that this policy of theirs is the exception in the industry where when a product like this fails miserably its seen as a legal liability. Any sort of knife failure in use is truly dangerous.
