This fire starter not only met but exceeded my expectations. The handle is comfortable, and the striker works well, providing showers of sparks after the black coating is removed from the rod (the spine of a knife also works will as a striker). The fire starter itself seems to be a bit thicker than comparably priced rods, and the whole package can be kept together with the included detachable ball chains. I also like the fact that two fire starters were included for less than fifteen dollars. A great deal.

The Friendly Swede provided excellent customer service and value. The Friendly Swede's communication via e-mail to make sure the product was satisfactory and their attention to service was at a level usually only experienced by people who purchase a luxury vehicle. The 2-pack ferro rod set was surprisingly high quality and functional. The handles on the top of the ferro rods are very ergonomically designed, and they have a very classy looking crown logo. I used one of them in a sheath with a ferro rod holder I received with an iPak D2 bushcraft knife, and it fit perfectly. The little bit of extra length over many rods is very nice because it allows more distance to create sparks. As a bonus, there are included strikers which also appear to be of very good quality, although I have only used the rods with the spine of the knife and have not yet used the strikers. I would buy these again in a second because they were an incredible value! Thanks Friendly Swede!

If you're like me, you've tried using other fire steels and went back to using a lighter, because they sucked. These are not like those. These actually work. I did my research before buying these, and discovered that you want to stay away from fire steels that advertise a lot of strikes (10,000+). That means the steels are hard and don't produce many sparks. These are softer, the way they are supposed to be, and maybe they will only last a 1,000 or less strikes, but you won't be striking them 500 times to start a fire, because unlike that other junk, they will work very quickly. I love these things.
Remember to scratch the black coating off before use, and watch some YouTube vids about how to properly use these things. If you use these right, and your tinder is set up correctly, these will start a fire with one or two strikes.

First, let me say that these are probably the best deal you will find in fire starting rods. You get two rods with your order, and they are also quite large"”maybe twice the size of run-of-the-mill rods. My only quibble is quite minor. They come with a metal chain/cable"”like the ones that sometimes tether pens in banks"”to connect the striker and the rod. Likely this chain will either rust or break in short order. But this is a very minor point. I would imagine most folks will do as I did, and just replace it with some paracord or leather lacing and customize the length at the same time. So far I've only had time to do a quick test, but they worked just fine. Loads of sparks and they will start a fire readily. So, like I said at the outset, this is a great deal. Plus you're buying these from a small company in Sweden, and that's a good thing too. Buy 'em.

I just got these things and they work great. Bigger than I thought and they work great. Comfortable in the hand. I put one in my knife sheath though it's a bit big for that, but it fits. I love the fact that it comes with two of these. The chain is ok. Nice that it doesn't stick to the velcro on my sheath, but I don't know how long it'll last. That's minor though as I also have paracord that I can use.
