Sounds great! Paired with a DAC and Pre-amp, this thing absolutely belts!

Very clean sounding amp! Distortion doesn't exsit! Bass very well controlled. The variable "Loudness" control works great, tames that bright sound from CDs. Listening to them is now a joy! This amp replaced a vintage NAD 3140. The only thing the NAD had that was better is the phono section, and also has a "Mono" button, that the Yamaha doesn't have. Don't like the speaker connections on the Yamaha. The two connection sets are too close together! If your connecting two pairs of speakers, I would advise you to connect speakers "B" first! The other thing I don't like is the Tape Out (Rec). There's no output from the REC out when that source is selected! You can't hook up an equalizer and expect to hear very source through it, doesn't work that way. You have to hook up your source directly to the equalizer, only that one will play through it. Luckily I have two inputs on my equalizer. To record something, you would normally place the selector on the recorder. With this Yamaha, you select the playing source. Your recorder will record that source even though it's not selected. I found this to be a strange design. That would be my only complaint. For sound quality, I don't miss my vintage NAD. Very nice amp for the money!!

S501SL - The Pure direct is a great feature - no concerns if I have the treble or bass set incorrectly. Very eye pleasing unit and the external components were easy to set up. Nice power to my 4 KEF Q series speakers - nice strong clean sound. The AUTO POWER STANDBY switch in back of amp is set to OFF. Did this due to some reviewers who experienced the amp shutting off.

Amazing sound! Big improvement from my 15 year old Kenwood. Nice remote easy to find buttons. Clear sound, good bass, treble....Has a loudness knob for lower volumes. I mostly listen to classic Hard rock and Rock.
