It does what it is supposed to do!
S. Scheide•December 29, 2017
Too bad it is discontinued because this is the first "universal remote" that actually relplaces my five remotes. At one point, the set up instructions are wrong, but I figured it out. Once I got it set up, it was a wee bit confusing (because I am old school, and really like having a manual to read, and of course there isn't one in the box). But after 12 hours of use, I have not once had to grab another remote, and that is a dang miracle!!
Potential but completely misses the mark

Being a big advocate of control systems and having worked with multiple Creston units during parts of my career when I managed enterprise AV systems, the potential of the Logitech Harmony Ultimate Home system looked very appealing when it came time to buy something for my new home. That, unfortunately, is where my excitement ends.
The software is poorly designed and whoever designed the UI on the remote, PC app, and mobile app is completely scatter brain. There is no logical flow whatsoever for a control unit of this level and some features are in places that make no sense. It gives me a headache in the wrong ways. Whoever decided to not allow custom macros on a unit of this level is quite, interesting. Even my receiver remote allowed the use of macros. Imagine the frustration finding that out after the fact. But hey, true techies can improvise and make the best of the limited capabilities.
Although not perfect, we were able to use the Harmony for close to a year with minor issues every now and then related to lag and the time getting out of sync. We even purchased the Home hub Extender to control some ZigBee devices. This is where we went wrong.
The flaws of the system is magnified 1000x especially when the issue of time sync has never been resolved by Logitech which screws up the ability to automate activities on a time schedule. Combine that with the fact that the scheduled activities are already flaky where it'll fail to run, this is a recipe for home automation hell.
Logitech's solution of rebooting and resyncing to everyone who complains about the issue on the forums over the years is rather insulting (Google the time issue as there is no shortage of threads). Well guess what? I can't be doing that every day to "fix" the issue. As a systems administrator of almost 20 years, I can tell you reboots never fix anything; it just resets the problem within the shoddy code. Incompetence at its best! And why can't we set the time and date manually? It's obvious NTP or whatever is used doesn't function correctly!
I give it two stars because it works in a limited capacity. Great concept but poorly executed. If I could get a refund for everything, I'd take it in a heartbeat and may pursue if they do not resolve the time issue in the next few days. Needless to say, I do not recommend this product.

Gotta Love It!

I am extremely satisfied with this Harmony Ultimate Home system (UH), in spite of a few Cons. I purchased it to replace two Harmony 700 remotes (set up for bedroom and living room entertainment centers). The resultant UH has 15 Devices, 15 Activities, and a slew of customized Buttons. I purchased the UH instead of the Harmony Ultimate One (without Hub) because at the time the price difference was less than $30. The stand-alone Hub was more than $90. To this day I am happy with that decision. The Hub is an integral part of the UH operation with respect to system updates and device control. The setup took more time than it should (1st Con) because MyHarmony only allows copying of one old remote to new remote. I had to manually input all the data from the second 700 to the UH. And since there's no way to copy Buttons (2nd Con), I spent several hours (with breaks) customizing Buttons for 15 Activities. Once the setup was complete, the UH performed flawlessly. The wireless connection to my very secure (non-broadcasting) network was also easy (qualifier: "easy" because I am a proficient PC and network troubleshooter). I really like the feature that allows the owner to set up devices to receive only IR signals. My bedroom devices are set up for IR (Remote only), so I don't have to run any IR mini-blasters from the living room Hub. I have my living room devices set up for RF signals (All) because that's where the Hub is. The Hub sits on the opposite wall of my entertainment center, where it converts the remote's RF to IR, and then successfully transmits the IR signals to all applicable devices (which are behind glass doors, exception "“ TV). One thing I really don't like (3rd Con) is the device limitation on Favorites. Favorites can only be applied to one TV. I have a two room setup with two distinct TV brands. Consequently, I can only apply Favorites to one room"¦flip a coin. Logitech has already improved on the remote's button layout (a much needed improvement) with the release of the Harmony Elite (so I won't complain about that). The price (and feature overkill for my needs) kept me from buying the Elite, even though I envied the button layout. I've used my 700's for many years without a problem and didn't make this purchase because of equipment failure. I just wanted to upgrade to one remote for all equipment, with a charging cradle (no more plug-in recharging). I have absolutely no regrets with this purchase.
I cannot recommend them to anyone even though the features are great ...

I have had two of these die on me, I cannot recommend them to anyone even though the features are great when they work.
Getting the kit set up is pretty easy, though a bit time consuming. You can set up everything online and then sync to your remote. Once the remote is sync'd, the commands work exceptionally well. You can configure a lot of the display/settings on the remote itself as well, so that the right screen pops up when you enter one of your "room" settings or device settings. For example, you can default it to the gesture screen when you turn your TV/cable box/receiver on, or default it to the commands screen when you turn your streaming media box/tv/sound bar on.
The feel of the remote is a bit awkard. It seems like most keys are out of reach when you need them and you're constantly moving from top to bottom to get to commonly used functions. The remote itself isn't weighted very well to be hitting anything at the top and I found myself adjusting my grip just to hit the "home" key, or pause something.
While the thing worked, communication with other devices was exceptional. I had some of my items behind walls, behind the TV etc and with the hub + IR extensions I had no issues sending commands to the other devices.
Unfortunately, the remote decided it wanted to kill itself and ended up shocking me while I was changing the channel. After this, the screen went white and had lines going across it. No resets repaired it, and when I called support I was told to remove the battery (which doesn't seem possible on this model). This is the second time it's happened to me. The first time I had purchased a refurbished unit so I chalked that up to a bad unit. The next time it was a new unit, and the same thing happened. On the first unit, I was just browsing channels and the second unit I hit the DVR button. I can't see why it would do this but both times it shocked me and then the screen went out. Button presses no longer did anything on the screen. The remotes were dead. I would have knocked one star off for the design and how poor it feels in the hand when using it, but with two of these failing on me and support giving me bad guidance, I can't really recommend this. It's too expensive for these types of things to happen without some recourse or local repair options.

Best remote system EVER!
Mike Burke•February 20, 2016
I love this remote!! It just works the way it should. I don't have that many devices (U-Verse box, blue ray player, 50" Plasma TV and Apple TV) in my set up but the ones I do makes it so much easier to control them.
One of the only complaint I have is when I push on a favorite on the LED screen it does not always catch all the numbers in the channel. This can become frustrating at times. But normally if you hit the same favorite again it normally works. So normally it's not that big of a deal.
I upgraded from the remote prior to this one. I like this one much better. I prefer the smaller size and lack of so many physical buttons. The hub is a very nice addition for the option of controlling network devices and Bluetooth devices as well. The hub and remote gives you the option to help you grow your entertainment center. I hope to get into the home automation stuff and knowing I already have the tools is pretty cool.
I also love that ALL the buttons are backlit. I like the way it fells in my hand. The way you can use your phone as a type of back up remote is pretty cool as well. Over all this combo of a remote and hub are well built and for the most part work flawlessly.
I would highly recommend this product. Mostly to people who have a bunch of crappy remotes scattered on the living room table and that seems to take a genius just to turn on your TV. This set up ones it's all programmed really simplifies it all. It really could not be any easier. All you do it tap on one of the set up activities and that's it. On the rare cases that something might go wrong there is a help section that automatically comes up and helps you get the system back on track.
I got this system lightly used from the Amazon marketplace for about 40 bucks cheaper. I have been thinking about getting another one for my girlfriend.
