Stylish, portable, easy access, low maintenance, could be used with formal & informal wear; these are all the things I was looking for in my couple days of research and I found it here with Berchirly Canvas. I am a college student and was looking for a new back-pack over the summer, since my old one broke, and then I decided that switching to a satchel might be a better option. A satchel has always been a dream of mine to own; however I had to do a lot of research to figure out what kind. The leather satchels offer a very professional and very classy look to them; however, leather material (as I already knew) was going to take a lot of extra work and when I saw how much as well as the cost it was a bit much for me. The Berchirly Canvas quickly became an excellent choice for me because it was $80 (right at around what I wanted to spend), it wasn't weather proof however it is a lot more tolerable to weather than leather (especially when leather gets wet). Now another factor for me was size. I needed something that could hold my: 5-7 folders, 2 books, a calculator, agenda, spare supplies, school wallet, and a laptop all at once, and this baby did so phenomenally! Even with all that stuff in at once the bag was still very portable and not too heavy. Now I will caution you on a couple of things: 1) I bought this bag with every intention for it to be something I could replace in a couple of years and not shed a tear. And it most certainly is great for that purpose as well as long term use. 2) If you wear jeans and allow it to rub up against your side for a long period of time, the jean color will rub off onto the bag a little. Not a lot, yet it was enough that I found it easier & smarter just to carry it in hand with one arm (even just ever so slightly so that it didn't touch my side). I especially did this when it was light weight & I would switch arms every now an again; and after doing so the jean color faded away almost entirely. Even with those cautions this is a phenomenal satchel and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a change from the traditional back-pack or anyone looking for a stylish and efficient means to carry their stuff. Thank you for reading and have a blessed day.
Good use for almost 8 years

I got this bag in 2015 and used it for several years in college and on and off during my working life afterwards. It has taken hard tumbles from a longboard, scratches, bumps, four different laptops, and being used as a cat bed for it to finally give up. The inner lining started tearing first but it stayed protective for years. Today I realized that the outer canvas has been put past its limits and is beginning to rip as well. I cannot believe that it has survived as long as it has with the abuse I've put it through. I absolutely recommend this for anyone who wants a classic canvas bag for their laptop, especially if you want it to last.

I bought this bag after I was left disappointed in another canvas camera bag.
Reasons why I chose this are pretty simple. The canvas material looked good from the pictures, and also the leather straps were not the typical PU leather which are terrible.
-First impressions are the size is good, I chose the XL size, as I plan to carry camera gear in it, mixed with a 15" macbook. So the size fits this purpose.
-As a camera bag, this is unpadded, so it is not a 'camera bag' from the get go. If you plan on using it to carry just a body with a lens and maybe a couple filters/memory cards this will work in it's current state. I did this with a previous canvas bag until the straps broke from the bag.
-As a real camera bag, the plan is to buy a rectangular foam camera case, that can allow me to organize my body, and two lenses. This will fit nicely in the bag.
-Internally, the bag only has 1 zip, the zip is quite big, so I would possibly recommend carrying the laptop in a sleeve before sliding it in or out to avoid scratches. The zip pull is fabric so that shouldn't be an issue.
-Externally, there are two pockets, perfect for filters, a small notebook etc, these are secured using two non magnetic snap fasteners per pocket. Good strength to them, compared to the magnet ones that hold main flap of the bag.
-The main compartment is also secured with a big zip, however, it has open ends, so in terms of weather and loose objects, it's something to keep an eye on.
Other than that, the leather straps and corner guards are nice, they seem to be weathered, and absorb scratches and marks, so it makes for a nice effect over time. The leather is also on the inner side of the shoulder strap. There is also a rear strap one could use to attach something to, I am still looking into what this could be. If there were two, the use would have been even better, say a tripod.
I did notice some stitching issues, hopefully they won't lead to issues down the line.
I think this is a little more expensive than the entry level canvas bags, but after having tried them, this definitely feels better, and seem so be better built, which is something to keep in mind when you are putting your camera or laptop in there.
Would recommend 5 out of 5!

The media could not be loaded. Recently, I found myself looking for an alternative bag to just be able to travel or walk around with. Something instead of my Incase computer + dslr backpack. It could be bulky at times and if I just decided to take my Macbook without the dslr (and lenses), there would be this weird shape in the back that"¦.sigh, you get the idea.
So after weeks of searching on Amazon (which currently is supplying my life), I finally found a messenger bag that looked pretty good and had great reviews. The main deterrents which prolonged my search were reviews in which straps had broken, the stitching was subpar, or the material was weak.
The Material
The bag is a soft canvas that is easily bendable and falls easily where it's placed. This is the type of bag you might want to touch for no reason. Stitching is solid.
The Clasps
The straps that close the main flap of the bag are attached by strong magnets. Although I would've liked buckles, I could easily see me getting frustrated every time I needed to open the bag. I'd probably end up leaving them unbuckled, which would probably end in someone easily stealing my favorite backup boxer briefs that I keep for emergencies. Who doesn't keep a pair on them at all times?? Yea me neither. Good thing this bag uses magnets huh?
The Zippers
One thing I really appreciate is a good zipper. Be it the zipper on my pants or the zipper closing a messenger bag, zippers should be smooth and effortless. This bag's zippers do just that. No one wants to struggle with a zipper. Additionally, zippers that glide easily, last longer.
The Size
I bought the largest bag they offered (17.3"³), which isn't really that large. The last thing I wanted was some big and bulky bag. This is the perfect size for what I need. I can put my 15"³ MBP inside with a few books and my Nikon DSLR just fine. Inside there is a small pocket for trinkets along with two pockets outside that close with standard buttons.

Great bag for the price

I got this bag to replace a Walmart cloth bag that I was using to bring my various vitamins and supplements to work and back home daily with me. My wife was telling me more and more that the Walmart bag was ugly and I needed to get something nicer. Initially I looked at leather messenger bags, but saw people having issues with them staining their clothes and generally couldn't find a style that would look good with the variety of work clothes that I wear weekly. I moved on to looking at canvas bags after I did some additional research and found that there are some great prices for very durable bags and ended up choosing this one. I love the color and it is the perfect size to hold all of my vitamins and supplements (about 8 bottles of varying sizes) on a daily basis. The color is a tone that works well with almost everything that I wear which is a huge plus. I've used the bag for a few weeks now and it's held up great and still looks like it did when I first received it. I also like that the clasp for the top flap is magnetic.
There are only a couple of issues/gripes I have with the bag. The first is that he side pockets are very hard to access. They are held shut with a leather strap and buckle which I find more difficult to open than it should be. The other issue I have is that, while I love that the top flap clasps are magnetic, it is hard to get them to lock to the magnetized piece on the bag if you aren't looking as you have to be exact on placement.
For the price and performance overall I'm extremely happy with the bag and am considering getting another for my wife to use. I will be picking up a Surface Pro in the next month and am happy to know (a coworker has one that I was able to test) that it will also fit in the bag with everything else with ease.
