Very sad to find that this tray does not come with the rubber edge bumpers or the screw on wrap around metal drive box. I have been using lenovo for many years. Love the OEM tray. Reliable and safe. Have tried knockoffs before and always led to problems. Expected from reviews and descriptions this to be the real deal or at least a solid solution. It is not.

Although the package that it came in didn't specifically mention it was for a T420, only T430 ..W700, it fits perfectly in my T420. Some reviewers have stated that it didn't fit their T420, so I don't know if it was the wrong model ordered or shipped or what, but I have no complaints. It was easily recognized by Windows 7 and I've written files to the hard drive to make sure it was working.

This is a lot better then a previous HDD Caddy Ultrabay I bought.
I really should have just spent the extra $6 and gotten this one from the start.

I love that it comes with rubber feet. Its minor and they are cheap sure, but I cannot state how happy I am that I don't feel my W520 vibrating while watching videos from my storage drive, unlike the other caddy that I had to modify in order to stop the vibrations.
This bay is still has more resistance to remove then the DVD drive that came with the machine, but its honestly still light enough that I can easily remove my storage drive, if i ever need to plug in my DVD drive, or just want to swap out drives. Ive had more trouble opening child safety locks.

I have 2 negative notes about this thing, though they are very minor, and aren't enough for me to knock a star off.
Starters: Its not flush in my W520 when fully inserted. - It is VERY close though. I'd say about the thickness of a finger nail off? I mean we are talking My second little irk would be the Activity LED color. Its Blue. I'd would prefer if it was green, to match the other indicator LEDs on the Thinkpad, And i'd like it if the brightness of the LED was a tad bit lower. - Though this might just be from the color being Blue. I'm pretty sure I could easily modify that on my own.

I had replaced the default 7200 rpm 750gb hdd in my ThinkPad W530 with a 250gb Samsung 850 EVO and had been wanting to set up the other hard drive as a backup for my Linux machine (the W530), so I got this. It is very reasonably priced and well built, and blends in very well in the DVD bay so it's impossible to tell you have a hdd in there. I now have a sata3 to usb 3 on order so I can connect the dvd drive when I need it instead of taking the caddy out and putting it back in.

I would recommend this to someone with supporting models.

As other reviewers have stated, it DOES NOT fit a T420, and it is not even close. The product looks to be decent quality and I am sure it would work just fine in the proper application. However, given that this is a case of misrepresentation, I cannot give it a positive rating.
