- •HOW IT WORKS: Mount pickup to your desired location on your instrument. Insert cable from your PA system or amplifier into the 1/4" input jack located on the side of the pickup. As the 1/4" plug is inserted into the input jack, the preamp is activated by an internal miniature switch inside which powers up and becomes active. The sound is transmitted through a highly sensitive omnidirectional pickup mic (located on to oppisite side of the input jack) and sent to your amplifier or PA system. Adjust volume to your desired level, play and enjoy!!!

Great audio quality
James Rix✓ Verified Purchase•October 31, 2023
Extremely good audio quality. I can't discern the difference between the acoustic sound and amplified sound.
Amazing tone, fully captures my violin & other instruments!
Noah✓ Verified Purchase•October 25, 2023
After experimenting with a Yamaha electric violin through the years as a way to amplify my sound, I became fed up with the tinny, dull tone of it and began to look for ways to grab that full-body violin sound of my acoustic. I had noticed a stark difference in tone from playing my electric in gigs with my band to playing my acoustic in the Georgia Tech Chamber Orchestra. I found myself being more and more drawn to my acoustic's sound.
Though I've seen new acoustic violins being made these days with an output jack for an amp, that would be a very expensive upgrade for someone on an engineering student's budget. My acoustic violin was made in the 1920's, and it was a given to me as a gift from my grandfather. I just couldn't bring myself to play acoustic on anything else. So, I began to look for ways to electrify its sound to make sure I can be heard when I play with my bandmates on drums, electric guitar, and bass.
This led me to discover electric conversion kits that you can buy to replace the bridge and give a quarter inch output. They use a type of piezoelectric pickup directly on the bridge, and thus you'd have to replace the bridge to play in an orchestral setting again because wires dangling around your bridge while you're playing Tchaikovsky is the last thing you want to worry about.
Then I discovered the Feather.
After doing many web searches and reading a lot of reviews, I found this Myers Feather pickup to be the most highly rated and most flexible to use. It just attaches right to the tailpiece of my acoustic, and I position the mic where I'd like it. Then, after I'm done playing, I just detach the mic and my violin is back to normal for orchestra playing!
Then there's the sound. My Yamaha lacks the body and fullness that this pickup can grab off my acoustic. It's like night and day. If you're looking for a way to most practically replicate your acoustic's sound without permanently changing your instrument, you've found it!
What's an added bonus is this pickup isn't tied to a specific instrument type. I've been trying to learn some Bluegrass music on mandolin, and I can attach this pickup to that too! Now I've got an electric mandolin! My girlfriend plays cello, and letting her use this when we play music for church is MUCH easier than trying to get a vocal mic to work.
I highly recommend this Feather, and the creator Gregg Myers stands by all of his products. I was in your shoes, reading review after review, trying to find the BEST pickup. Let this be your decision point, if it's suited my varied needs, it will definitely suit yours!

Violin pickup for experts!!
Lucy Tran✓ Verified Purchase•October 23, 2023
The sound quality of this mic is for sure on a different level than ones that are ~$20 I've used before. It's not the easiest to set up, but after that step you can confidently play and let this mic amplify your great sound. Also it can be set up on cello and some other instruments, so it's like a "kill 2 birds with 1 stone" tool - turn out to be not as expensive if, say, you want to have 2 or more pro-level mics for different instruments. Overall, I highly recommend it!
No instruction

The mic comes with bunch of separated details and battery, without instruction I have to guess where and how to place all of those😕
O ring nightmare
Alaina✓ Verified Purchase•October 7, 2023
Although the sound quality is wonderful. The reason I bought the unit was to use the micro clip but it's impossible to get the wire o ring to stay on the rubber o ring, it just pushes it around. No amount of squeezing will release the wire enough to get the rubber o ring under it. This giving you 0% chance for it to stay on the instrument. If you can figure that part out, ,]more power to you.
