This can give you a vague sense of where studs might be in a wall, but is wildly inconsistent and not at all useful for finding stud centers. The current detection is similar- it will sometimes detect the presence of current within a couple feet, sometimes not at all, and sometimes detect current where there is none. Probably better than randomly drilling, but not by much. The display is great, but provides a false sense of confidence- press it against the wall where there's no stud, wait for the flash/beep to indicate that it's calibrated, slide until you get the indicator that this is the leading edge of a stud. Press against a spot with no stud on the other side of the stud, slide it back to find the other edge"¦ and keep sliding because apparently there are no studs in this wall. Start in the original spot and slide to doublecheck your initial edge, and discover that somehow the stud has moved two inches in one direction or the other within the wall since you last checked. Repeat until you throw it across the room.
Even the GF can use lol.

Not exactly perfect but if you have 1/2 a brain you can hit the stud with no problem. Great cheap piece to have at home.
