The guidance lines come not straight. Yes, you must manually unscrew the plastic cover and realign the clear plastic disc that has the reader lines on it (the lid portion).
The vertical line within the sight hole is also not straight.
I have not tested the rest of the compass, and I'm sure once I fix this it will be fine. But seriously. Not straight.
