Got this on recommendations of some reviews on here, to replace the plate lost on my Amazon Basics tripod. Only to discover that the reviewers either have a different or older version because this does NOT fit the amazon tripod I got earlier this year. I've shaved a little of the sides to make it fit for now while I find a new one for my tripod but it's not a good solid fit.
I gave it four stars because it's not the sellers fault. People need to know that despite reviews this does not fit amazon basics tripod

I Like the price and general quality of this quick release plate. It does seem to have a tiny bit more "wiggle" to it than my brand name one that i have on my other camera. But, as long as i am not trying to shoot really super long exposure in windy conditions with it, it will do just fine. And, even then, i am confident that it will hold fine, but any wiggle with a very long exposure can ruin the shot. so, in that case, i would just use my other mount for those kinds of shots. for the price of this, you cant beat it.
Kind of as advertised? After a little work on it.

So, as other reviewers have mentioned this is not the size advertised, the widest point of the plate is maybe 1.5mm too big and impossible to install as is. I actually used a manual hand planer to shave down the edges, worked great, took off thin layers a little at a time It fit great afterwards, maybe even better since I did it a little at a time. I'm sure sand paper would work too but it was a quick 1 minute job with a manual hand planer. (I make it clear enough?

Worked great for the job. I did have to file the edges down for it to fit my tripod. I filed it down pretty quickly with just a steak knife. It only took a minute or two. Now it works perfectly. Even though I had to file it down I still gave it a five star because my tripod was not listed in the compatible list and it still works great. I could not find one for my generic tripod, so this was my best option and it worked. I believe this unit with a little modification will work with just about any tripod. I would not hesitate to buy this unit because it is so easy to make it work even if it is a little to big for your tripod. At least that was my experience.
Required a touch of sanding to make it fit but it was easy and the price is great! Would buy again.

I purchased this along with a binocular adapter to improve my birdwatching. I have a Ambico tripod and I discovered the release plate was about 1/32 of an inch wider in both width and breath than the head of the tripod. Since returning it was not an option I took out a well used piece of 120 grit sandpaper and spent about 30-45 seconds on a side removing about 1/64 of an inch from each side. It then fit perfectly and the holding lever was able to be completely closed. Since I could have paid three times as much for what would probably have had the same problem I am happy with it. Although it was not "perfect" out of the box, it was such a simple fix that I still thought it merited five stars because of the low cost.
