Bought this twice

Got this for my husband to hold his D&D books when we travel. He liked it so much that I bought a second one for my nephew when he started getting into D&D. Small if you start getting into carrying minis around or want to be able to also bring a board game or laptop, but nicely sized for a few books, pencils, paper, and dice.
A bit smaller than expected

I bought this bag to make it easier for me to carry my gaming stuff. I thought that it would be a bit deeper than it was. I only carry one player's handbook and that fits just fine. However the paper tablet that I keep with me for making notes is a very tight fit. As is the folder that my character sheets are in. Now I am not talking about a 3 ring binder I am talking about a standard peechee style folder. It barely fits and I have to pull up on the zipper and tuck the ends of the folder under the zipper to make it fit. The tablet of paper could easily be swapped out for a smaller size but the folder that really isn't anything smaller. The size issue is the reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5. It is well made and a good fit for me, but it you expect to be able to carry more than a couple books you will not have room left for much else in the process. Just something people should be made aware of before you buy. The bag is well made and I am impressed with the quality but not being able to fit a simple folder is a downside for me.
A fantastic, albeit small, Travel Bag

I had been in the market for some sort of satchel/handbag/manpurse for a while. I like to carry around a lot of notebooks, pens, and other art supplies so I can work on projects while I'm out and about. While I do fancy I good game of DnD that was not my driving force when I purchased this.
I will say this particular bag is rather small but it is perfect for what I use it for. Definitely check out the dimensions and look at some pictures to make sure it is a good size for you before you purchase. Other than that this bag is fantastic. The material and stitching is good quality for the price. There are two compartments in the main part, each large enough to hold a couple of notebooks, regular books, etc. The pocket on the front is small, with a few netted compartments, but they are two small to put anything in other than a couple dice or some (very small) post-it notes.
If you need something small to carry around some odds and ends this is a perfect fit. I doubt you can find anything better for the price.

Sturdy and well made minimalist or beginning fantasy role player's bag. Great gift to a new player!

Good materials, sturdy construction, taped and stitched seams. You can carry the bag with the handle strap on top of the flap even if the flap is unzipped and the bag is open without fear of anything ripping. The bag design itself is very minimalist, which is good since most of us tend to carry way too much when playing, anyway - but keep that in mind before buying it. For example, the top sides of the opening 'catch' when putting books/folders in or out of the bag and have to be gently moved aside about an inch on each side - which can be an advantage if the bag tips off a chair or table, since your contents are less likely to spill out.
The height of the bag nicely fits the standard DnD and Pathfinder books, but no larger than that- player character folders or anything using sheet protectors will not fit in the bag with needing to be 'squished' - binders will fit but the bag won't be able to be zipped. The top flap has a pocket kept closed with Velcro, but putting anything thicker than paper or a couple of pencils in it will squeeze against the contents of the bag and you probably won't be able to zip the flap closed. The shoulder strap and fittings are well-made, though the strap itself seems a bit narrow at 1.5" - but you can't carry a lot of weight in the bag anyway so you're not likely to get a sore shoulder. Padded inside dividers have Velcro to add one large or two half divisions inside the bag, though the space in the bag is tight enough that you wish the 1/4" of padding was thinner. They also take quite a bit of fidgeting to get them properly placed evenly along the sides and front and at the right level.
The small zippered front section has two small mesh pockets that will accommodate a few loose miniatures and dice but are not wide enough for say, a pad of Post-It notes. A few pencils / markers can lay in the bottom of the front section but much more than that will fall out when the section is unzipped. Fantasy role players collect a lot of dice but there really isn't the space for a regular dice bag (much less a 'Royal Crown' sized bagfull) unless you put in the dividers and kinda flatten the bag to the size of a moderate paperback when you slide it in, or you use a shoulder strap clip to attach to your dice bag and carry it outside the case.
If you carry any books, you'll probably be limited to two or three average thickness books especially if you also carry player character sheets or other printed game aids, and decks of cards (like the DnD spell cards, Paiso 'Critical' or 'Fumble' decks, etc) will be best carried using the inserts set for two divided compartments - but the decks will have to be no thicker than a paperback novel.
What I've said about size limits and expectations: well, sure, you could probably squeeze bigger folders / bags/ stuff in the bag but it will be hard to close and will take some serious space management to get to it and keep it from falling out when you open the bag. This is not the bag for a DM, for a convention, playing two game systems, anyone that likes a dice tray / more than a dozen dice or figurines / lots of play aids, or someone that likes to have snacks or a can of soda. Collectible card game players should go for a bag specific to their needs, especially if binders or 9-card sheets are used, but this bag might work if you only carry decks in boxes - and no playing mat.
Some suggestions to the manufacturer for another model of this bag: Adding pen loops or pouches to one side of the bag and a water bottle pouch to the other side. Enlarging the front section and having the mesh pockets take up more of the space in the front wall of the bag and also making them elastic to expand to fit the average dice bag on one side and a deck or miniature box on the other. Hey, REALLY go uptown and include a small box for figurines? Too, maybe add a front pocket onto the front flap like you did for the top flap and have the opening toward the inner part of the bag so that contents won't spill out. Having the entire bag be just one inch taller would allow for carrying standard player character folders. With these modifications you might not need to include the removable dividers which might partially offset the cost of this bag.
All this said, I really like this bag. It is a very well-made, sturdy bag that helps keep focus on just what is needed for the next game session and not pack a bunch of unnecessary material. The water-resistant, sturdy fabric, fittings and padding nicely protect contents and the bag will probably last for many years. You can tell that some serious, experienced engineering talent participated in the design. Kudos to USA Gear for keeping such a low price point on such a quality bag.

Solid Bag for a Player
Letter Size✓ Verified Purchase•October 10, 2023
First of all, understand that this bag was not designed for its marketed purpose. It is a camera bag. That's why it's lined with soft fleece, has removable dividers, and the small front pocket is so small and has little mesh pockets inside (good for a memory card). I don't believe in buying something to use for something it was not designed to do, but the reviews sounded good, so I decided to give this one a try. Overall, it's a solid D&D bag for a player.
Some of those features make it a good bag for a D&D player. It sits upright, doesn't fall down, and the lid zips completely open and stays open. Very easy to remove and replace books and items in the main compartment. The inside of the lid also has a pocket, but I'm not sure what I'd put in it, but nevertheless, it's there.
Books and materials fit perfectly in the main compartment. I'm a player, so I carry the PHB, a coil-bound printed copy of the free Basic Rules, XGtE, TCoE, a folding dice tray, an iPad 9th Gen with a keyboard case, a file folder with some papers inside, and a Moleskin-style journal in the main compartment. They all fit very comfortably; not tight, not loose, just right. I could probably slip some more thin booklets inside without difficulty, but with my inventory above, the bag does look full from the outside and it's heavy.
The small pocket measures 7 1/2 inches by 4 1/2 inches by 1 1/2 inches. The small pocket on the outside has a brand label (I'm going to remove it soon), and some leather-like accents. It's big enough for writing tools, but my leather dice pouch with dice and minis that I store in a Chessex clear dice box make for a tight fit. I like to keep my phone out of my reach when I play, and maybe it will fit in this pocket if it's empty. The mesh patch pockets have no use for a D&D player. If it were designed to be a D&D bag, the pocket would be larger and have pencil/pen slots inside.
The shoulder strap is trash (skinny, thin, very cheap nylon web material) and unlikely to handle my inventory without breaking. The carrying handle is attached to the lid, and when zipped close, it seems solid. The strap attachment points are solid, so I'm going to look for a replacement strap. It comes with dividers for the main compartment that I don't see as useful for me, so they'll go in the trash with the shoulder strap.
I feel this is a reasonable purchase, comparing its features, quality, and price, and I expect to get good use from it for my money. It's good for a player or a very minimalist DM.
