Sturdy and functional
Maya✓ Verified Purchase•April 27, 2024
Purchased this for my 18 month old and four year old. Assembly is easy, but there are no holes to screw in the included hardware. We could have used a drill, but the legs seem perfectly sturdy without using the screws. Love that it includes a cover to protect from the elements.
Table as pictured, no predrilled holes

Table as pictured, with drain plugs on both sides. Both sides are pretty shallow for water in my opinion, but good for sand. I chose this for the lid and umbrella, and liked the separate sides for water and sand.
Setup should be simple since it's only 2 drain plugs (threaded and popped right in) and 8 screws for the legs. But like all step 2 products, there are no predrilled holes so doing this with a manual screwdriver was impossible for me. It needed to pierce two layers of plastic that i couldn't quite get through with my "middle aged woman strength". I used an electric screwdriver drill and it still took quite a lot of power and dexterity to brace and anchor the screws. Despite this, it was assembled in about 15 minutes.

Cute water/sand table....with two flaws

I'm usually a fan of Step2. They specialize in large and durable outdoor products for children. This water/sand table is no exception. It's solid and sturdy and goes together fairly quickly. I've seen reviews criticizing the lack of pilot holes for the legs. This seems to be standard practice from the company's manufacturing process as I've seen it in other Step2 toys that we own. So I was kind of expecting the same thing with this table when I ordered it. To be clear, there is a 'starter hole' to place the screws in the correct spot, but you will indeed need to drive the screws thru the bulk of plastic on your own. Yes, attempting this by hand with a screwdriver is a task. It's doable. But a power drill will make it go much easier and quicker. So, the two flaws...and I'm somewhat disappointed by this as it indicates a dip in quality from this brand. Flaw #1 - the surface around the two drain holes where the rubber plugs go should be flat. But they are not. They surface around the holes is bowed on my table. This results in the rubber grommet not resting flat against the surface increasing the likelihood of water leakage. This would also explain the many complaints of leakage in other reviews if the bow is present in all tables indicating the flaw exists during the manufacturing process. The flaw wasn't obvious to me until I turned the table over and noticed the nut also wasn't flush against the undersurface. Flaw #2 - the hole for the umbrella appears also to have been tooled incorrectly during the manufacturing process. There is a round white bracket that's inserted over the pole underneath the table to keep the umbrella from swaying. The instructions clearly show that the bracket is resting against the undersurface of the table for maximum stability. But (as shown in my photo) that is not possible. You have to tilt the pole to accommodate the bracket and it still doesn't rest against the undersurface as intended. This results in a somewhat tilted umbrella and less stability anyway since the bracket isn't performing the function it was designed for. Overall however, the table is functional and the grandkids enjoy it despite the crooked tilting umbrella.

Ordered this to keep my daughter busy in the summer. It's perfect. We put sand on one side and water in the other (there is a plug to drain it). The umbrella is cute and easy to put up and down. It comes with some toys. And I like that the cover snaps into place using elastic ties on each side. Very happy with this purchase.
