They Need to Resurrect Their Older Model

I was much happier with a previous model: the Acc U Rate CMS 430-DL. I accidently broke it and ordered this one as a replacement. It's not nearly as good. It takes longer to display results, and while it's on my finger it makes wide changes in the displayed results. While the oxygen reading seems to stabilize in a few seconds, the pulse rate changes constantly and never seems to stabilize. Over the course of two minutes, it will display the pulse rate in the nineties, then switch to the forties, then the sixties, seventies, and back to the forties. Then it will climb steadily to the seventies and jump back again to the forties. I don't think I ever had a real pulse rate in the forties. Finally, it takes about 3-4 times as long to turn off once it's removed from my finger.
I wish they hadn't tried to improve on the older model.
I'm going to shop for a different oximeter. One that works.

RN review: Deceiving product, "correct" looking waveform, with inaccurate readings

Readings are inaccurate. The waveform is inaccurate. I'm an RN, and am thankful we had a professional grade pulse oximeter I was able to borrow from another unit. The waveform was showing the reading was "correct" when it wasn't, which is a clever way to deceive people into thinking it is accurate. I'm disturbed company's are able to sell things like this online, when it is so important to get accurate readings. There should be regulations to protect people from allowing companies to produce and sell devices like this. Save lives and avoid this product.

I had a little scare last week when I visited the doc and found my O2 level was really low. I used my Prime account to order the CMS 500D Deluxe Thursday night when I got home and had it in my hands by Saturday at noon. It's simple to use and I've been using it multiple times per day to keep track of what's going on. The unit is shipped in a protective, well padded box and is complete with batteries, silicone cover, lanyard and a fantastic user manual. Even though the product description states that it's not a medical device, it's clear from reading the provided manual that the technology used to calculate the O2 reading is legit. The manual explains the technology in layman's terms and then goes on to explain the process in biological terminology as well. I've ordered a lot of inexpensive items from Amazon and quite a few of them have been "cheap", lacking in either quality, packaging or instructions, and sometimes lacking all three. This is at the other end of the spectrum, in my opinion, this is inexpensive but is a very good value for the price paid.

After posting the one star review (above), I was contacted by Sara, from Med Shop & Beyond.
She offered to replace the inaccurate 500D, and asked that I modify my one star review about accuracy.
I would gladly add more stars and revise the review if the second 500D was accurate.
Unfortunately, the second one was just the same as the first.
I took some photos showing the difference between the two 500D oximiters, and an accurate one I purchased previously.
As you can see, the two 500D oximeters without the covers are reading much lower, no matter which finger, and note that I had them on for over a minute before taking the photos to let them settle.

This is the same item that my physician uses in his medical office so I figured it's good enough for me at home! I have had issues in the past with a very fast heart rate, so has my daughter, so picking one of these up really helped to give up peace of mind at home. It is extremely accurate, as we have taken it with for hospital stays and it says the same numbers that the hospital monitors show. It works on adults and children, which is a huge bonus. The only issue is that it is EXTREMELY sensitive to movement, so do not use unless you can be still for a few seconds, you will skew your results and give yourself a panic attack.... ;)
Also, this item has several programming options that are valuable such as an alarm that sounds if your oxygen or heart rate fall outside of the normal values. The digital display is vibrant, easy to read, and shows the heart beat.
It's a great item, I could see this being useful in every household.
