Perfect and durable enough to keep the sugar ants and earwicks from my hummingbird feeders. The first couple of days the ant bodies were found in the water, but after a week, they have moved on and lost all hope of stealing the sugar water.

Since using these Droll Yankee Ant Moats I have not had a single incursion by any crawling, climbing invader into my Hummingbird feeder. I've had to clean these out periodically because they do what they are supposed to do, keep those things from reaching the feeders.
Just keep them 3/4 filled with water and no more creepy crawly intruders.

I've fed hummers my whole life and have tried every trick, idea to keep ants out of the feeder. The past couple of months has been the easiest maintenance I've ever had with feeders. Don't be put off for the bit of a higher price; it's worth every penny. Give 10 stars if I could; wonderful product.

The small gap between the hanger rod and the cup excludes most ants. Any ants making it down the rod to the plastic bail of the feeder still must cross the water moat. In very hot mid August temperatures in Southern California, Argentine ants are everywhere in our yard. (We don't spray pesticides.) Hundreds of ants were passing by within three feet of the feeder when the photo was taken. Another ant cup, under direct sun, 95 degrees, lost only half its water in 24 hours. Use of this product has been effective in deterring Argentine Ants.
