This item does what it is designed to do and at a great price (the case for my laptop cost more)

Many of the new laptops no longer come with a built-in CD drive requiring the purchase of an external in order to access data from CDs. This item does what it is designed to do and at a great price (the case for my laptop cost more). My only (very minor) complaint is that it takes two USB ports to use, one for power and one for data. My laptop only has three ports, one of which is already in use for the Bluetooth mouse, so when I use this drive I am unable to use a thumb drive as well. I happened to have a 4 port USB hub on hand which allows me to only need on port on my laptop, but without that the design does present potential problems with usability.
Works with all USB ports 1.0-3.0

Accurate description, works with all USB ports 1.0-3.0 previously purchased a single cable 3.0 drive that was supposedly backwards compatible (Not) only USB 3.0 ports (Blue inside color) supply enough power to properly operate single cable drives this drive has an additional USB power input cable that can also be used with a portable power bank or USB wall plug. my 2in1 tablet laptop has only one 2.0 USB port. I plug the additional USB power cable into my portable power bank or USB wall plug the drive works flawlessly for 6 plus hours with the power bank (low power consumption) This is a great DVD/CD player (does not write) I transfer everything to USB flash drives anyway no need anymore to burn CD's or DVDs Also includes a cloth storage pouch great deal for less than $20.00 Highly recommended

I purchased this external DVD drive to transfer pictures from DVDs and CDs back to cloud storage and memory sticks. My notebook does not have an optical drive, this rxternal drive works great for my project. Good quality metal case for the money. Fast delivery with my Prime membership.
I like it for what it is.

Have had it for a little less than a week. Seems to work fine for the most part.
I use it at work so it sits on my desk all day. It is kind of flimsy. You have to hold the back of the unit when closing the drawer. Very light. I couldn't imagine taking this on the road and subjecting it to repeated jostling and bumping.
It worked for me right out of the box. Plugged it in and played a CD. Mine works fine with just the USB cord, and I have it plugged into a hub, but it's a powered hub so that probably makes a difference.
Overall, I'm pleased. It does what I need it to do.

First off, incase someone missed the pictures, this external CD drive uses two USB connectors. One is for power, the other is a USB 1 B cord. For others, this could be a issue, so just putting that out here.
For me however, this means I can use a longer USB b cord than it comes with, and even with the power being separated to a unique usb cord, I can use a extender on that if I need to, or even power it off of something other than my computer/laptop.
As far as it works as a CD drive, yep. Works great, no issue. The cords it comes with are maybe 12" to 18" long, somewhere in that range. You can easily use a USB hub for both usb cables, I use a c port to 4x usb 3.0 hub on my laptop and while the data speeds obviously are always going to be eithor at usb 1 speeds or the cd read speed (I'm not sure which is slower, google it), it has no issues running on that.
