It kept the bugs off my face and neck but they can bite through the top of the hat since it's such thin material. When I sprayed bug spray on the top of my head that helped a lot.

Shallow hat, hardly sits in head. Hard to pack for a backpacking trip because of wire rim. Got left behind. Wanted to return it but the cost to return was almost as comparable to the cost of the hat, not worth it. My 5 yo has claimed it for future local hiking trips.

This hat is practical and has thus far kept the bugs, in particular, the mosquitos off my face, ears, and neck! I can see the mosquitos swarming and the net is large enough to allow you to work in the garden while keeping those pesky mosquitos away. I absolutely love it.
