Terrible battery life
Mark•March 24, 2018
It's inexpensive and it mostly does what it's supposed to do but the battery life claim is nonsense. I've had this installed for 5 months and have already replaced the batteries twice. What's more troubling is that when this device is used with the standard SmartThings device handler, you cannot use the app or WebCoRE to see the battery level and have to go to the setup menu on the thermostat to see how much battery life is left. And when the batteries die, the thermostat simply stops working. Which could be a disaster if you are on vacation or this is used in a second home. They should have included a low battery mode that will set a base temperature and sound an audible alert when the batteries are almost dead. I wish I had spent more money and purchased a more sophisticated z-wave thermostat.
Not suitable for my system, as described and doesn't function as my previous thermostat did even when hooked up correctly.

I bought this for features and compatibility. Got neither, plus the factory support is a joke- new telephone system there routes and hangs up calls. If they can't solve the problems this is going back. I have a case number and will seek to return to AMAZON for credit on a different model. The specific problems on this thermostat:
1. Doesn't function as specified with my Z Wave controller (Modes on local aren't fully supported on Z Wave controller (Heat with Aux Heat, E Heat), Aux Heat isn't supported locally).
2. Customer support at Nortek is abysmal during normal East Coast Hours (as they are at Pacific time zone, they answer the phone but provide minimal support and forwarding to someone knowledgable is not workable.

Elegantly simple, and works great with SmartThings and Alexa/Echo

Not as fancy as a Nest, but gets the job done great. I have several SmartThings automations working with it without issues. It also integrates with Amazon Echo/Alexa; you can ask what the temperature is, and you can tell it to set a particular temperature.
Connection was easy--just follow the instructions in the booklet and make sure the colored wires go into the same colored ports. NOTE: Some thermostats have the ports in different places, so make sure the wires are properly inserted.
Looks like a "regular" thermostat of the past 10-20 years and blends into the background without drawing attention.

Very nice for 14 months

Spectacular product. Got joined into ADT pulse pretty easily. Looks good and the price is unbeatable. I'm going to get another one for upstairs eventually so I can trigger the fan mode on this one to go to on from auto when the temperature becomes too hot upstairs in the winter; when I'm running a gas log fireplace downstairs.
Update: after about 14 months the relay for closing the heat circuit failed. I will keep the defective one for monitoring upstairs temps and buy a new one for main thermostat. I'm not sure what kind I'll buy - this kind is good looking - easy to use and affordable. The need for long term reliability for the main system has me pondering spending more on something better.

Smart home on a budget? this is the answer!

Having just sold my home that was already set up as a "smart home", i had to start from scratch with my new home! I didn't want to spend $200 for the 3rd time to get the Nest just to have a "smart thermostat" This puppy was the perfect compromise!
It integrates well with Samsung Smartthings and i have all of the functions that i used when i had the nest (Alexa functionality and phone controls). The few extra features the nest had over this, i didn't completely utilize and you can get those extra features usually through a zwave hub interface anyways!
very happy with the purchase!
