After my electronic quick access safe died and their customer service number range without ever being answered I started searching for something that was reliable. I watched to many videos online of biometric (fingerprint) locks unlocking for everyone and their brother, tubular locks opening with a ballpoint pen shaft and cheap wiring causing electronic locks to fail. First, this V-Line safe is strong with 16 gauge steel. Its heavy and you will need something more than a hammer to destroy it! Next, installation direction were clear. It requires a trip to the hardware store but everyone's mounting needs will be different so this way you will able to have a custom, strong mount rather than something cheap, and one size fits all. Lastly, the lock is simple and reliable. Instructions to set-up the lock are easy. The only criticism I found with this Simplex lock is the lower number of possible combinations compare with electronic versions. This did not bother me because eventually every lock is penetrable, this lock won't failed when the batteries or electronics fail and this lock lets you use double-keys in the combination. This box is more expensive than other options but it will last forever! I am very please with my purchase and would recommend the product to others.

The V-Line Slide-Away Security Safe is really well built. I was surprised how heavy the safe was, which makes sense as the thing is made out of pretty heavy-duty steel. The construction of this safe is top notch, and all bends, welds, and holes are neatly done with good control of tolerance. The paint finish is uniform with complete coverage.

What's really nice is the Simplex lock. The Simplex lock is not inexpensive, and its great to see a product include this quality of a lock when many of the competition go with a cheaper, less effective alternative. The Simplex lock is pretty easy to set IF you read the instructions, and should provide many years of service even if used daily or multiple times per day. And there are no batteries or thumbprints to worry about working when one needs them to work without flaw. The Simplex lock is very reliable.

The Slide-Away provides a removable base that can be bolted down to the mounting surface, and then the Slide-Away cabinet is attached to the base with screws from the inside. To get to the inside, one needs to remove the drawer, and I did find it a bit difficult to get the drawer remounted, but nothing not overcome with a little effort.

One improvement I'd like to see is a bit more contact between the base and where it attaches to the fixed surface to facilitate using epoxy in addition to or in place of the bolts for holding the base in place to the mounting surface.

"Made in the USA" made this a particularly attractive purchase.

And I must mention the packaging. The Slide-Away came perfectly packaged, better protected than some laptops that I've purchased. Nice job V-Line!!

Without the drawer re-installation or base issues, I would have gladly given this product a 6 star review [;>) !!

I watched a series of YouTube videos where the presenter broke into a different electronic safe within seconds in each video. One very expensive safe he opened with a chewing gum wrapper! In most he used simple pick sets from right here on Amazon. See, when you have electronics, whether switches or biometrics, you usually have a tumbler or cylinder lock bypass (unless you buy a KABA Mas X-09 or X-10!). These are easily picked. Interestingly, he recommended V-Line for their KABA Simplex lock, as this one has. It has limited combination permutations, but they are more than sufficient, as long as you take advantage of it (as opposed to oversimplified combinations).

This drawer is built strong. I did not use the attachment plate mainly because I set it aside and promptly forgot I had it! I used carriage bolts through Advantech subfloor material to create a clamp on the bottom inside rail of an Amish-made night stand. A couple of spacer boards and the cabinet hangs at the perfect location below the night stand to provide easy access, while being out of sight enough that most people would even notice it being there. I like the concealed nature of the drawer, and with the nuts inside the cabinet, there is no easy way to steal it. Perfectly sized for my Sig P365 SAS, a light, and extra magazine, with room to spare.

I wanted to responsibly secure a handgun in my bedroom but still have quick and easy access. I did not want a safe with an electronic lock. They may be good but I just don't trust them for reliability. After doing some research I liked the idea of a simplex lock despite some bad reviews of old simplex locks on doors and the ease with which they could be defeated with a strong magnet. I believe that problem has been corrected on newer locks, besides with the heavy steel shielding of the door material I believed defeating this lock with a magnet would be impossible. Anyway, I decided to order this safe and give it a try. I am very happy. While no safe is absolutely secure I believe this one would take a lot of work to open with normal hand tools. Not something a child would be capable of. Even a burglar would find it very difficult as long as it is securely mounted and could not be easily carried off. As far as determining the combination by trial and error I suppose it's possible but would take quite some time if a complex combination is set. The only improvement I could think of is to make the mounting plate reversible so the unit could be mounted on a narrower shelf. The plate is not as deep as the unit so the front mounting holes extend over the edge of a narrow shelf. Other than that I am completely satisfied with this safe. The build quality, fit and finish is outstanding. This is one rugged safe, and it's not made in China!

All in all im very impressed with this product. It was packaged nicely and shipped fast. I would definitely buy it again and recommend it for anyone who needs a moderate form of temporary security. Its not perfect but its a nice solid lock box. So my opinion and review of this product is as follows;

Pros - Price point, sturdy, easy to mount either from the top or the bottom, nice finish, everything functions like it was intended, lock combo is easily changed, you can actually store flat things like money passports or small documents under the actual drawer itself if you remove it, the drawer is spring loaded so after you unlock it, it pops open about 1 inch nice feature, LOTS! of usable space, I can fit a 50ae desert eagle and a full size glock with a RMR sight and a few other little things in it, great lock box for RVs or motorhomes.

Cons- I think the only complaint I have is kinda just a nit picky one. I understand this isn't suppose to be the be all end all of lock boxs but in the picture it doesn't show the back or the bottom of the lock box. The way this is put together is they roll the edges to make the box and then weld a little more than a spot weld to put it together. So the bottom has like 6 spot welds and the back has a few as well if I remember correctly. It would have been nice to see a complete bead weld all the way around even if it wasnt finished and or ground flat. But for this price point I can understand.

All in all great little product and I definitely would buy it again. You just have to remember what this is designed for and what your application for this will be. So thats my two cents hope it helps.
