Quality little ball head.
All Things Man✓ Verified Purchase•May 4, 2017
This is a nice little ball head. I use this on my Manfrotto compact action tripod with an attachment to hold my iPhone. It gives you many different angles and locks nicely. It is very well made. I highly recommend. This gives me the opportunity to capture b roll and behind the scenes footage.
Works very well

The EXMAX tripod ball head for DSLR cameras works great. It makes for very versatile shots to capture just what you need. It tightly secures the camera so you know it is not going anywhere. I actually took this with my DSLR camera attached to it and I carried it around everywhere using it to vlog and shot amazing videos. It held up very nice and I knew my camera was safe and sturdy. It attaches perfectly to a gorilla pod. I don't have anything bad to say about this product it works well.
Uneven friction. Get next size up that takes a 3/8" bolt.

Friction is uneven. When both the base and the threads are pointed up, it requires significant cranking to ensure that a decent-sized flash gun doesn't tip forward. When the base is pointed to the side, but the threads pointed up through the notch, the turns required on the lock screw are more reasonable.
I have a different one that takes a 3/8" bolt (but comes with 1/4" adapter) that's much better. Looks like this one:
Neomark 360 Degree Swivel 1/4" Screw Tripod Mini Ball Head for DSLR Camera Camcorder Light Bracket Swivel with a 1/4" to 3/8" Convert Screw Adapter
I just use this now as a topper for a monopod in case I want to shoot portrait mode for a while.

Buy Something Else

I give this one a "miss". Buy something else!
PROS:
Construction is all metal except for the camera plate and the ball tightening knob.
Built with reasonable quality.
Low cost
CONS:
Ball will not tighen down securely. Even light finger pressure will move it. Any camera weighing over a pound will cause movement. Problem worsens as you move it toward the vertical (portrait) aspect.
Treads on both the bottom receiver and camera plate screw are NOT 1/4-20! I don't know what they are but they are mostly likely a close metric size. As I screwed it into 4 different cameras there was play of 15-20 degrees. Very sloppy.
The round camera plate is very small and the 'rubber' used on it is not substantial enough to 'lock' the plate to the base of any camera I tried. Plate keeps coming loose from the camera.
Small size of the unit makes for problems trying to manipulate the camera around on either a tripod or monopod. On 3 out of 4 cameras I wasn't able to rotate to vertical since the camera would hit the tripod base depending on where it screws into the camera base. It was a pain.
OVERALL:
This item would be fine to use with a small 'point and shoot' on a monopod; but forget it when it comes to a heavier DSLR. My 1lb Canon SX520 was even too much it. Due to the poor locking of the camera plate I definitely would never trust it while I'm out traipsing through the woods. I wouldn't buy this again and would send it back except for the cost to ship it back make that silly.
I would opt for a larger ball head of better quality next time such as the 'DMKFoto Heavy Duty Ball Head with Quick Release Plate'.DMKFoto Heavy Duty Ball Head with Quick Release Plate
UPDATE: I HAD TO RETURN THIS HUNK OF GARBAGE. The locking screw stripped out after the 3rd day!

Great as pictured BUT....
Robert (Buff) Leboeuf•April 17, 2015
This is an exceptionally well built little ball head. the locking thumb screw is large and comfortable and all the parts are beautifully finished. I liked it so much I decided to buy 2 more as the price was great for the quality. BUT, when I received the next two they were totally different than the first. Small, weak and with the locking screw being tiny and folding down so as to make it difficult to use. In short, junk. I sent them back and received my refund but really wanted two more of the great ones. I waited a week and re-checked the listing and found the photo showing the original one and decided to try again. I ordered two more and mentioned in a note that I would only accept the one as pictured. Guess what I received. Two more exactly like the two that I had sent back. Rather than waste my time returning them, I threw them in the trash. Just be forewarned.
