Like many objects of Old Testament times, fringed garments were also found in non-Hebrew cultures such as Egyptian, Mesopotamian and Midianite. The fringes of the other nations probably were worn as decorations or amulets to keep away evil spirits. But, as with many other Old Testament laws, God took the already known and gave it a new significance for Israel. The tassels or fringes were to remind Israel of His commandments. Along with the primary purpose of the tzitzit based on the Pentateuch, we find another, later meaning. In ancient times, tassels were part of the hem of a garment, and the hem symbolized the wearer's authority. When David spared Saul's life in the cave at En Gedi, he cut off the comer of Saul's robe, symbolically demonstrating that the king's authority would be cut off. This is seen in Saul's response: And now I know indeed that you shall surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in your hand 1 Samuel 24:20). Tassels added to the hem were not worn by commoners, but by the nobility or royalty.1 The second significance of the tzitzit, then, is that they showed the wearer to be more than a commoner. He was a noble, or a royal personage.

Made From Cheap Materials & Reeks of Harsh Chemicals that are hard to wash out.

I tried to wash the chemical stench from the material but its just clings to it.
I am very sensitive to the chemicals in this shawl and its causing a allergy.
I am returning this one & will just buy a 100% cotton shawl instead.
The only thing i did like was the embroidery.

Bought for a close friend. She loves it! Keep it folded in its zipper carrying bag, put in wash on cold/delicate with just fabric softener. It kills the smell of processing and softens the material a bit. Only issue is all 3 I bought (different colors) have a residual stain from the neck piece on the bottom where it may be folded while still wet from processing and dying? The strip along the top in Hebrew seems to transfer an off white color outline of its shape to the bottom of the shawl. I am going to wash with a Laundry Bar Soap to scrub that out in the section only then rewash it. The manufacturers need to put a barrier between the neck piece and the bottom when folding to prevent the seeping of color.

I purchased this as a gift. When I opened it there was some slight staining due to manufacturing and storage. The insert said there might be; and it would come out when washed. I told the gift recipient that there was some staining and if it didn't come out when washed to let me know and I would exchange the shawl. She has not mentioned to me if it washed up well or not. The shawl is beautiful and perfect for a woman.

While it is true that this is a beautiful tallit, it leaves a lot to be desired as far as quality. I was really disappointed that the material wasn't in the least bit soft at all. It feels like it was made with a canvas-like material and tassels or tzitzit are loose. It smelled coming out of the package, although that's not a deal breaker since you can wash the smell right out... or so I thought. I washed the tallit on the hand wash setting (because of the embroidery work and the tassels that were already loose) and it still stinks coming out of the wash, though the smell is more faint. The tzitzits are coming unraveled after one gentle hand wash setting. On one of the corner squares where the verses are embroidered, there is a spelling error instead of saying "But to you who fear My name, the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings." the r in 'arise' is an 'f' .... I'm also none too impressed with the stitching quality as it's all crooked and there was some fraying at the top around the collar where the blessing is stitched. I would expect better quality for something as special as the tallit. This to me showed that there was little care in how it was made. It truly looks to me like someone rushed through the job to move on to the next one.
I'll most likely retie these tzitzits, I was going to give this away because of the quality but it truly is beautiful, even if there are a few discrepancies. I think I'll use it when I pray with my children since I got the full body size and I'm only 5'4. When I pray with my 2 daughters, I'll cover all 3 of us to pray, I know it will be special for them.

I'll most likely retie these tzitzits, I was going to give this away because of the quality but it truly is beautiful, even if there are a few discrepancies. I think I'll use it when I pray with my children since I got the full body size and I'm only 5'4. When I pray with my 2 daughters, I'll cover all 3 of us to pray, I know it will be special for them.

Nice prayer shawl. I bought it as a present for my birthday. The bag accompanying it it also nice and it is a huge shawl. The colours are lovely but the shawl smells a bit due to some treatment it looks like it had to preserve the colour I presume. The smell was not overwhelming so it can still be used. It also has an instruction sheet to show how to care for the shawl. I would recommend it because it has beautiful embroidery of verses on the corners and at the middle on one of the longer edges there is a beautiful embroidered verse for the head area. The bag is also embroidered. I would recommend this shawl. It is true to size and prettier than shown.
