Toy Story 2 is one hour and thirty-two minutes and was released in theaters on November 34, 1999. The story picks up somewhere around summer time as Andy and Woody gets ready for cowboy camp. Right before the two are set to go, Andy accidently rips Woody's arm and Woody is left home. Andy's mom put Woody on the top shelf where he discovers Wheezy, a rubber squeeze penguin whose squeaker is broken. While Andy is away, Ms. Davis is having a yard sale and grabs Wheezy from the shelf and put him up for sale for .25¢. Woody rescues Wheezy but Woody is stolen by Al McWhiggin; the owner of Al's Toy Barn. Buzz, Rex, Mr. Potato Head, Slinky Dog, and Hamm set out to rescue Woody. It is at Al's apartment that we learn the truth about why Woody is stolen; Woody is a character from the 1950's era television show Woody's Roundup. Woody is the last part of Al's collection needed to sell to a museum in Japan so Al can make millions off of Woody. The collection is useless without Woody. Jessie, the Yodeling Cowgirl, Stinky Pete the Prospector, and Bullseye (a horse) are all exciting to have Woody back and tell them that he is going to Japan with them to be part of a permanent display. Woody at first refuses to go with them but, as he learns more about his past and Stinky Pete smooth talks him Woody has a change of heart and decides to stay. When Buzz, Rex, Mr. Potato Head, Slinky Dog, and Hamm arrive to rescue Woody he tells them that he is not going the gang slowly leaves. Woody watches an episode of Woody's Roundup and sees a boy playing with and that reminds him of the times he spent with Andy and misses that. Woody changes his mind and tells Buzz and the gang to wait for him. Woody invites Jessie and Bullseye to come with and they agree; when he starts to invite Stinky Pete, it is then that Stinky Pete true colors are shown. Stinky Pete locks the air vent and forces Woody, Jessie, and Bullseye all go to Japan with him; Stinky Pete is resentful for all those years he spent on a Dime Store's shelf while other toys were being sold around him. Buzz, Rex, Mr. Potato Head, Slinky Dog, and Hamm go after Woody, Jessie, and Bullseye and wind up at the Tri County Airport. In the end Woody saves Jessie and all the toys make it back to Andy's house. This movie is a great follow up to the original Toy Story and we learn more about Buzz and Woody's past. Toy Story 2 gets an AAAAA+++++.

A Sequel That Surpasses Expectations: Revisiting Toy Story 2
Emily Elizabeth✓ Verified Purchase•January 2, 2024
When "Toy Story" hit theaters in 1995, it revolutionized animation and storytelling in cinema. It was a tough act to follow, but "Toy Story 2" not only met those lofty expectations, but in many ways, surpassed them. Here's my comprehensive take on this animated classic.
Story & Emotional Depth:
"Toy Story 2" builds on the themes of friendship and identity introduced in the first film while adding layers of complexity and emotional resonance. The introduction of new characters like Jessie and Bullseye adds depth to the Toy Story universe. Themes of abandonment and the value of individuality are explored without making the movie feel heavy or dark.
Characters & Performances:
The original cast returns stronger than ever. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen reprise their roles as Woody and Buzz Lightyear, respectively, delivering performances that are heartfelt and relatable. Joan Cusack's Jessie is an exceptional addition, providing the emotional core of the film. Each character serves a purpose, contributing to the story's emotional weight and comedic relief.
Animation & Design:
Even though it was released over two decades ago, the animation still holds up impressively. The textures, movements, and expressions are carefully crafted, showing the early mastery of Pixar in this field.
Humor & Wit:
What makes "Toy Story 2" so enduring is its universal appeal. The humor works on multiple levels, offering something for both kids and adults. The dialogue is witty, the visual gags are clever, and the comedic timing is impeccable.
Pacing & Structure:
The film flows effortlessly from beginning to end. There's never a dull moment; whether it's an action sequence, a tear-jerking moment, or a hilarious gag, every scene feels essential and well-timed.
My Opinion:
In my view, "Toy Story 2" stands as one of the finest sequels in the realm of animation, and perhaps cinema in general. It successfully navigates the tricky waters of expanding a beloved universe while remaining true to the core elements that made the original so impactful. The film's ability to entertain while touching on deep emotional and existential issues is a testament to its brilliance.
Would I recommend watching or re-watching "Toy Story 2"? Absolutely, and not just for the nostalgia. It's a film that resonates across all age groups, and its themes are timeless. If you've somehow missed this gem, you owe it to yourself to experience it. And if you've already seen it, it's always worth another watch.
In summary, "Toy Story 2" is a masterclass in storytelling, character development, and emotional depth. It's not just a worthy successor to the original "Toy Story"; it's an exceptional film that stands strong on its own merits.
