Really good *large* capacity
Amazon Customer✓ Verified Purchase•January 20, 2024
I needed a pot to brew *lots* of coffee for many adults camping, and this Sterling Pro 1.75L press does that very well.
I previously purchased a Miuly press (ASIN B09QHSB2KZ) advertised as "1.5L 50oz" that could really only make ~36oz of actual coffee (nothing bad with it, just too small). As I said in that review these pots tend to advertise the amount of *water* they'll hold if you fill it to over-flowing - which nobody does (you can only fill to the bottom of the pour spout or you get grounds in your cup).
This Sterling Pro 1.75L theoretically holds 59 fl.oz. of water, but in reality holds ~52-54 useful oz. of water and eventually brews about 48-50 fl.oz. of final coffee. It was the largest I could find on Amazon, and it does a fantastic job of producing a large amount of coffee for a big group. After ~6 months and ~40 pots it works great. Finish still looks good, and is as easy/difficult to clean as any other french press (i.e. messy). Highly recommend if you need to make a *lot* of coffee.
It pairs perfectly with a Jetboil Sumo (ASINB01MYQ74WI ) to boil ~50oz water and Stanley 1.5Qt thermos (ASIN B07L6M56VN) to hold 48oz of brewed coffee. Side note there are a dozen ways to brew coffee, but for a large group in January none of that matters if it takes 20 minutes to boil the water. So invest in a good water boiling system first, and get the right-sized press & thermos/carafe to hold it. And derate any advertised numbers accordingly because your real-world results *will* be less.

Great quality and large.

This was a great purchase. I have used a few different French presses in the past, but this one is by far my favorite! Keeps coffee hot longer, easy to press, great mesh screen, large (makes many cups of coffee, I think 7 or 8 8ounce cups!), quality product. I highly recommend this product and seller. Product is exactly as advertised and was delivered quickly and well packaged. Thank you Amazon 😊!
A must have

This is my first French press coffee maker. Over the past year, I have been trying to expand my coffee-making skills using several pieces of equipment which I have purchased based upon many, many online reviews. My first purchase was a Cuisinart grind and brew coffee maker, which is impressive and makes pretty good coffee. However, in reading further about coffee making machines and wishing to get a machine capable of making a quick but satisfying-tasting cup of coffee, I read up on all the k-cup machines but found mostly negative reviews about the taste of k-cup coffee as well as the negative impact of the disposal of the cups. Mind you my wife is not a connoisseur of fine coffee and only wants a hot cup of whatever. Thus, when I finally decided upon the Bunn MyCafe brewer, which reviews had scored best in taste because of its ability to brew at a higher temperature than the others and with four different drawers for different brewing functions, she offered only a roll of the eyes for my effort. The Bunn machine is impressive, especially when using the ground coffee drawer with an EkoBrew filter. The k-cup drawer suits my wife fine, because it's quick and convenient. but for me, not so much. Now we owned two coffee-making machines with the accompanying loss of counter space. The wife still uses the original Cuisinart most of the time with the resulting waste of coffee as she brews a full twelve cup pot but only drinks perhaps a third of it. I have been experimenting with the Bunn using different types of Peets (my favorite brand) whole bean coffee ground in a Cuisinart burr grinder which I purchased with another wifely eye-roll. But the connoisseurs say grind your own with a burr grinder"¦I have discovered several combinations of coffee and grinds in my Bunn that I like, but I won't bother to reveal them since the purpose of this review is not my machines and coffees, but is my review of the SterlingPro Double Wall Stainless Steel French Press. However, I felt it was necessary to first take you through the process whereby I arrived at its purchase.
So, let's get to the review:
At first sight, this is an impressive looking machine with its beautifully polished stainless steel. Even my eye-rolling wife likes the looks of it sitting on our kitchen counter. It feels and looks very sturdy and uses double stainless filter screens to give the press extra efficiency at keeping the coffee free of grounds. I don't know how long the screens are supposed to last, but I suspect that they will do their work for a long time. Even so, the press comes with two spare screens packed with it"”a nice touch. Some have questioned the metal on metal sound of the screens as the plunger is pressed. There is some such noise, but I haven't found it to be a problem since the pressing is most effective when done very slowly.
The press is double walled and all stainless steel. There is no plastic anywhere. Thus the press keeps the water hotter while the coffee is steeping. I have been pouring the water just off the boil and allowing it to steep for four minutes. I have been stirring the coffee with a bamboo chop stick for a few seconds after the water is poured then putting the lid and plunger in. After a timed four minutes, I plunge very slowly until I feel it reach bottom. I then pour into my cup. I use 24 ounces of water to 4 tablespoons coarsely ground coffee. After pouring a 12 oz. cup, I pour the remainder into a small thermos to keep it hot. I do this because if left in the French Press, the remaining coffee will continue to extract to the point of bitterness. I have arrived at this procedure through trial and error and recommend that users spend time experimenting to find what works best for you. I do recommend that you not try to brew only one cup as I have found that doing so results in an excessive amount of sludge in the bottom of your coffee cup. Even with 2 twelve oz. cups, I find it necessary to pour the second cup very carefully leaving just a small amount of liquid unpoured in the pot.
Clean up of the pot and its mechanism is vey easy. The plunger rod unscrews from the screens and screen holder quickly and allows the screens to be rinsed along with the other parts. If the rod is screwed too tightly at the bottom, you may have to use a pair of pliers to unscrew it initially but thereafter, it shouldn't be a problem. After cleaning the plunger assembly, I then just rinse out the grounds remaining in the bottom of the pot and wipe clean with a soapy sponge to keep oils from accumulating on the walls of the pot. A quick rinse of the pot and I'm done.
Finally, the StirlingPro has produced the best coffee of all my three machines living up to the many praises I have been reading about French Press coffee. Admittedly, I am very new to this, but I expect that I won't be buying another coffee machine for awhile. At this stage, I would wholeheartedly recommend this Press.

Compact beauty

Smooth and sleek, this elegant compact beauty is bringing in the fans at my house. This French press makes a great cup of coffee. I grind my beans, pour the hot water in and wait 4 minutes. My coffee is so smooth. I do admit to making strong coffee so I put in 4-5 scoops. At 5 scoops I've had compliments of "best coffee I've had in a long time " from a couple of my family members. Smells great too! This French Press takes up less room than my last, is stainless, and easy to clean. I've ordered a few more for Christmas presents. We make quite a few pots a day so it is very important that my coffee pot is easy to clean, doesn't leak and my coffee taste fabulous (and without grounds)!!
I'm not sure at this time how long this French press keeps a pot of coffee hot as it never lasts very long. The body stays warm to the touch, but the handle stays cool. This French press works well for smaller crowds( or simply keep hot water at the ready for quick back to back pots).
Update :12/14/15 I have issues with the design. The screens , lid and the handle are connected by the center piece. My issue is most of the time I need to clean the screens I have to get the pliers out. That's annoying. This could have easily been designed where the screens and the lid slid down and off the bottom. I'm going to have to glue the top where it screws into the handle so it will stop spinning. Maybe if you never unscrew the handle you won't have the same issues. The coffee is still great.
Update : 10/21/20 I thought I had updated this review. I am still using this French Press. I bought 5 of them all together for myself and for relatives. They are using their French Presses as well. My personal French Press was the only one to have issues. I simply glued the knob/centre piece in place and that was that. No more issues. I take this French Press camping, vacations and even to work.
