Updated Review - SLOW Internet Speeds
Janie Pendergraft✓ Verified PurchaseJuly 22, 2023
Anker worked really hard to resolve this issue with me and I believe it to be my Surface Pro 5 issue. The device works fine with all my other laptops and has great speeds. I bought it for the Ethernet port because Surface Pro's don't come with one and also the design was well thought of because it also included a 3 port USB hub which is also helpful because the Surface Pro's lack in that area also. Because of the design and all the help Anker tried to give me and their quick response to issue me a refund I am upgrading my 1-star review to a 4-star review.

I am disappointed in this product. I bought it for my Surface pro so I could hardwire it for faster speeds. That was a mistake. I have a 1GB cable Internet plan and I usually get close to 300 Mbps on my wireless but when I put the Anker on I can barely get 62 mbps. I tried different cables, Anker's drivers, different ports on my router, and nothing. Still slower speeds than Wireless. I gave it a 1 star because I will keep it for the 3 port hub since my Surface Pro only has one. If I had known the Ethernet port was so slow though I would have got a different USB hub. Would not recommend and would not buy again.
Such a solid product.

I am so happy with this product.
I used to buy Belkin but they have lost my confidence entirely.
Anker is the new company to get my gear from and I also got
the portable black USB charger which is a beast. I dropped it and it didn't even dent.
This hub is made like a tank. The in/out plugs are super solid and the product is well made.
I hope you find this product before looking too much. It rocks!

Perfect for cheap laptop that hasn't got an ethernet port and only two usb ports, it does a good job for me, many thanks.
LIke the detachable cord, works instantly in Win 10, not quite so obvious in Win 7, but seems fine once you figure it out.

I have a new Dell laptop without a Ethernet port and was going to get one of those USB-to-Ethernet thingies, but saw this for just a few bucks more and decided to get it, since I like the idea that I gain USB 3 ports as the laptop I have only has one regular USB 3 port. Note that Anker makes a very similar aluminum version (obviously designed to complement a Mac) and thought about that but then I realized that the cable was captive at the device end, and seemed a bit fragile and that was a stopper issue.

One of the things I like about this version, is that while it's black plastic and doesn't look 'cool' at all, it uses a detachable USB 3 cable (and comes with a one-foot one) so that there's no having to replace the unit due to cable or connector wear, and the cable is a very sturdy thing.

I first plugged it into a Windows 7 machine, and the automatic install failed, which surprised me as these type of things have been around long enough that 7 rarely fails to find a driver. However, I saw something indicating that you'll see an extra CD drive on your computer and if you open that and run the installer, it will work fine. It did and that was that.

I then plugged it into a Windows 10 laptop and it installed almost instantly, without my doing anything, and had a connection faster than I'd have believed.

Thus far, I can't really tell how good the performance is one way or the other. It "seems fine" and I had no problems connecting a portable external hard drive to it even when the laptop was running on battery, though I wouldn't try that for too long.

All in all, like other Anker products, it's worth the money. The only criticism I have is that until Win 7 is completely gone they should make it a little bit more obviously how to run the install.
