These reviews are wrong. It picks up GAMMA and XRAY radiation. Americinium will not be detected because its giving off Alphas. Half the people on here are not reading the instructions and I almost didn't buy this because of them.
When measuring set your phone to airplane mode and don't bump the geiger, its as easy as that. Checked a Uranium glass marble and a thorium lantern mantle. Both set it off at about what the rates they put off should be. It definately is in the right ballpark for counts but I wouldn't know the exact precision without lab equipment. Definately works though... people are so frustrating sometimes.

THis is a great answer for the low cost prepper. It will give a simple "Yes" or "No" answer. When testing food items or general area conditions, you can know weather radiation is present and if so is it problematic. For the low cost up front, it will give some peace of mind while you save up for a top shelf counter.
