Neither CD decks work, neither tape decks work and the sound is mediocre at best with distortion in the radio and media devices.

I purchased this a little over a year ago for a remodel in my planned mothers retirement casida (mother in-law). I just removed it from the packaging after receiving it a year because she is finally moving in and neither CD decks work, neither tape decks work and the sound is mediocre at best with distortion in the radio and media devices. I am now stuck with a product that doesn't work at all. I'm simply bummed and now searching for something that will suit my mothers senior needs. Bummed.......

I love this stereo. I am a music lover so having this system being able to play music in more than one way is awesome. I like the fact that it has a shuffle(continuous)play. I have found that even my plants love it.
Improved sound and quality. in a new RADIO, Vinyl, and cassette to cd recorder. INCOMPREHENSIBLE INSTRUCTION BOOK.

The sound is very, very good. The BIG problem, and it is a big problem. is the instruction booklet. The instructions are incomprehensible. I could not figure how to make it work. A friend who is an electrical engineer came over and after about 3 hours of reading, re reading and experimentation go the thing to make a cd from a cassette. He cold not figure out how to make it track. I wanted to copy a cd to a cd, but not surprisingly, was not able to. I firmly believe that it works. I also know that I will never be able to work it. I urge the manufacturer to remake the directions and to make sure that an ordinary liberal arts college grad can follow them. I think that the tech writer should call a few people off the street, pay them, and say, "Now, make a cd out of this cassette and track it." The tech writer should then sit with the group until all of them until they copy the cassette to a tracked cd and use the words in his written instructions to accompany subsequent instruction pamphlets, Please send me the rewritten handbook with a note of thanks for the idea. This has happened before. Older readers, of which I am one, will remember the many, many, friends of theirs who bought the brand new and expensive Video Cassette Recorders still in the boxes or used as display items sitting proudly and unused by them, because the instructions were incomprehensible. This, I believe, remains the case with many owners of this set. The Sylvania sets are easy to work using the directions. Of course they burn out with no notice in less than two years. Always get a warranty with the Sylvania.
