My space-crazy 4 year old loves this
RedFawxe✓ Verified Purchase•August 2, 2018
My son just turned 4 year old is in love with this thing. We do have blackout curtains for his room, so it's fairly easy to see the slides on his ceiling and wall. The stars aren't too complex- blue lights that remind me of light reflected off a disco ball: clearly patterned. But honestly, my son doesn't know that, and doesn't care lol. Every time he turns on the stars he gets really happy and talks about the stars. He loves switching out the slides and going through all of the pictures. It'd be nice if, as a toy, there was a place to store the extra slides that aren't currently being used in the projector (like how a Mr Potato Head has storage in the toy itself), but that's a minor criticism and that doesn't change my opinion of this at all.
Just don't do it.

I bought this last week for my son's birthday, as he was having a space-birthday party and is an outer space enthusiast. So many things wrong. Package arrived damaged, though the unit itself looked okay. However, when I attempted to put batteries in, found the screw was already stripped (so very obviously a return from someone else). The button to turn it on is poorly made....does not stop at each of the 3 settings, rather you have to maneuver it slowly to try to get it just right (between projector, stars and off). The rotating starts themselves are cool and project well, but the rotating mechanism makes a noise. At first it was soft-ish...my sons were fine with it, said it sounded 'like crickets' the first night. The second night though my husband, I, the baby, and both dogs were awakened at 4 AM to a horrible LOUD screeching from across the house (sounded like a loud washing machine on spin cycle, but very high frequency) - finally localized it to this in my son's bedroom. Took an hour to get everyone back to sleep once I shut the unit off. Now it makes that same screeching whenever turned on (mind you, it's been used TWICE). Other cons....it's batteries only....and since there is no auto-off it will stay on all night until you turn it off in the morning (I'm guessing they would need to be replaced weekly at that usage). The planet cartridges are neat in theory, but they project one stationary planet at a time on the ceiling, and you manually spin it to the next one....my son was bored quickly. Can't return this fast enough.
Kids loved it and images were very clear

Kids loved it and images were very clear. The focus knob works great for projecting images at different distances. Controls are easy enough for my 9 and 5 year old to control. Very cool to have at bedtime.
CHEAP PRODUCT

I originally purchased one of these on clearance at Bed Bath &Beyond for my 7-yr old son who loves space/science. Brought it home and it didn't work, so I figured that's probably why it was on clearance. My son was so disappointed. Then I found the same product on Amazon and ordered it that same day. He was super excited and couldn't wait for the shipment!! Just opened the box, inserted the batteries, and it does not work!!! Only one side worked, the star projection side. But the other slide projector did not work at all. Called the product customer service line, and confirmed it should work once batteries were inserted and if not, then the product was most likely defective. I will NOT be ordering this again! Save your time and money and find a better product! Needless to say, my son was extremely disappointed, AGAIN.
Caution: limited life disappointment

I thought surely these people that had it stop working right after they got it all had a kid being rough with it, throwing it? Nope. We didn't even have a single drop. It stopped working after about four or five uses, while being used to project on the ceiling. Purchase with caution and expectations to return.
