Plastic is stronger than expected and will hold weight of water heater. Elevated design keeps heater above ponded water (preventing rust) and also keeps water heater drain valve above pan edge/lip for easy hose hookup and drain. Recommended.

had a new water heater installed, would you know it leaked after the third day? This pan allowed us to keep using the water heater because while it was leaking, it was not more water than would fit in the pan and drain appropriately (thanks to our awesome plumber), great pan. Kept the water heater out of the water, even with standing water in the pan for a while....

This pan is very nice. Keeps the heater raised out of any water if there's a leak. I like it a lot.
