I wasn't sure about getting a steel ball vs. a glass one. However I live in Minnesota and the temperatures can be extreme both ways throughout the year.
I had a tree cut down and had them leave about a foot of the stump left. I decided to but a gazing ball on top. This was among the largest on Amazon.
It doesn't even show water spots after a hard rain or when I water the lawn!

Bought this for my grandmother. It was sturdy and strong. Not cheap looking and seems as though it will hold up in the weather. We will see. It has a hole where you can add sand to it to make it even more sturdy. We are going to do that.

Ball arrived in perfect condition. Very shiny and smooth.. no visible seam as the seller states. It is lighter than I expected. It has one small hole (1/8") diameter but includes a plug if needed. Please see attached photos for size (relative to a 10" glass gazing ball) and finish.

At last! A Gazing Globe which won't shatter! I put it in my shade garden, which is under a large, old maple tree. In the past, the gazing globes I bought and placed there inevitably shattered very quickly! If a branch came down in the wind, or a breeze knocked the globe from its pedestal--or if a raccoon or such decided to nudge it around--those first GLASS globes broke. It was disappointing and expensive, so I just stopped replacing them! But THIS globe is made of metal! It is lightweight and attractive (very high polish) but it is NOT a giant Christmas tree ornament! Thank goodness. I am thrilled!
