I got tired of the cheap plastic letter openers. Found this one and gave it a go. This is a solid, beautifully crafted piece. It was sharp from day 1, however, it was a bit rough edged so I worked it with a honing steel for a few moments to smooth it. The leather sheath is sturdy and tight. I will be ordering a few more as gifts.

Needs sharpening to cut and not rip through paper :(
I spent a few minutes on my sharpening sticks and it will now cut through triple-wall cardboard boxes :)
As far as my slight disappointment with the tiny size of this knife (letter opener), the coolness-factor of this blade far exceeds my expectation let-down.
I am embarrassed to mention that I based this purchase 99% on the pictures and only read just a little bit of the description (LoL).
I am overall very pleased with this purchase.

Is there a minimum length for a knife to qualify as letter opener?

Cutting edge of blade is about 2.25 inches so if you have a pocket knife use it to open an envelope and you will know how this small knife works as letter opener.
It is a nicely crafted attractive item and okay for carefully opening a couple of envelopes per day
