Great protection, required upkeep
Jackie✓ Verified Purchase•April 30, 2023
As protective gear, these are great. The only issue I ever have is that they tend to slide down the leg a little if you walk around a little, but a) they're easy to put back into place, and b) every since knee+shin guard does that, so it's hardly a strike against Red Dragon. Love the protection.
I was recently taking apart the padding from the plating using the snap fasteners, and discovered the fasteners had rusted closed because of the sweat from my shins that had soaked into the padding. This meant they didn't open easily, causing the fasteners to tear apart, failing from either the metal snapping (top left and right fasteners, where the cap sheared away from the post), or from the fastener ripping out of the padding fabric (top left and bottom left [missing] fasteners, where the prong backing of the fastener came out of the padding).
It'd've been nice for the fasteners to be a little wider and have a stronger connection to the padding to prevent this from happening, or using some kind of stainless/rust-proof steel to keep the fasteners from rusting in the first place, but this is also an issue that the consumer can avoid by just caring for the gear and doing the required upkeep: keep the fasteners dry, check them for rust regularly and remove it, apply protective coatings, etc, rather than just taking the shinguards off and throwing them in a gear bag to stew in the salty sweat-water. So this isn't a fatal flaw for the product, but definitely something the user needs to be aware of and take into consideration when using and caring for their product, unfortunately.
