DEWALT DWST08810 ToughSystem Music Player is the Best Portable Radio for Home or Jobsite.

DEWALT DWST08810 ToughSystem Music Player simply cannot be beat in this category of radios. Clean and crisp bass is simply the best measure of the quality of a speaker's sound for me. DWST08810 delivers on both fronts with accuracy and precision after taking delivery of this system today, 30 Dec 2017 from Amazon. I tested it with all sorts of music ranging from jazz, classical, pop, reggae, etc, and came out with a winner each time. Even my 9-year old son could hear the clear difference between this system and the Bosch Jobsite radio we just tested and returned to Lowes after two weeks of use. I purchased Bosch PB360C Power Box to use as radio 80 percent for bluetooth transmission and 20 percent FM radio. However, after about a few days of use, I noticed the performance was subpar with all music within the deep bass sound spectrum. It had this annoying rattling sound that was so bad, I simply stopped using it after a week of use. I went reading reviews of all jobsite radios across the web, including Youtube reviews. Then, I came across the DEWALT DWST08810 ToughSystem Music Player. Essentially, even the critiques had one thing in common that the sound quality and bass was excellent. After about two weeks of research, I decided the Bosch radio was going back and Dewalt is the choice. Dewalt was on sale so I took the plunge. Oh Boy! Am I surprised? I tested the bluetooth, FM and internet radios and my decision is affirmed. DEWALT DWST08810 ToughSystem Music Player is the best radio out there. The sound is as clean and crisp as my high-end Harman Kardon home and BMW system. I am not sure about Bose as some reviewers seem to compare...Bose sounds are not clean and crisp compared to Harman Kardon...anyway, that is just my experience. I plan to use it in my garage mainly when working on my car or doing other work around the exterior of the house. I strongly recommend the DEWALT DWST08810 ToughSystem Music Player. 5-stars!!!
Half the Weight!

As described. the fit is not elegant (SEE PHOTO) on my DW988 hammer drill but it works. The weight at 547 grams, battery with adapter, is nearly 50% less than the old NiCad battery (DC9096, weighs 956 grams). At $113 for the battery set, this is a good compromise to buying a new complete drill. I do recommend replacing the brushes in your drill to see maximum benefits.
Buying optionality for older tools...

There are a lot of things to like about this kit. I have a slew of Dewalt 18V tools that I use as a DIYer... as my battery supply has dwindled over the past few years, I was faced with the question as to get this kit or spend a similar amount of money on new XRP 18V batteries.
So, this kit is easy to use.... easy to transfer from tool to tool... and uses a more modern battery technology, which allows for optionality should I purchase something from Dewalt's 20V tool line. I'd also note that while I have not timed the charge cycle, it would seem to be very quick to come to a full charge from dead.
A few issues...
1. It sits awkwardly on drills. The angle of this adapter makes the drill's base less stable and easy to knock over. That's not a big deal, but if your drill unexpectedly tips over as you're trying to hold something in place and reach for the drill, that's a nuisance. It's also a good way to snap off some smaller drill bits or mark a floor from a drill that falls on it.
2. While it performs as advertised... there is little warning as to when these batteries are about to lose their charge... I guess the noticeable gradual loss of power in the NiCad batteries is an apt warning to swap batteries. This gives no such "idiot gauge".
3. The charge on the batteries does not last as long as I would have hoped. I would not want to be away from a charger/electricity for an extended project without having multiple charged batteries at the ready.
4. These new batteries "bleed" as they are left on the tool. It is disappointing to go to use a tool and have it work for a brief instant before going dead. It's a problem that I did not have with the old 18V batteries unless they were dying. I've always left my batteries on tools that I use a lot... I guess I need to change that.
Overall, I like it... I would not pay up for it, though. That is to say that if this kit was within $20 of replacement XRP 18v NiCad batteries, go for it... $50 is a different story.

My newer 18v XRP hammer drill it fits great in and removes easily (see picture circled in GREEN)

The adapter worked in my older 18v DeWalt drill, but it was really hard to remove (see picture circled in RED). My newer 18v XRP hammer drill it fits great in and removes easily (see picture circled in GREEN). Also, The charger is BETTER (faster) than the charger you get in the combo kits, so consider that - I couldn't believe how fast these batteries charge.
Great batteries. Don't be fooled by the single charge light

When I received these batteries I had the sAme problem that several people reported. E.g. It only shows one bar of charge no matter how long it stays in the charger. There is a super easy fix. I believe the problem is that the charger misreads the voltage And says it is charged.
The fix: once the red charge light stays solid but the battery indicator only shows parasitical charge the actual battery indicator is correct. To make it continue charging, quickly lift and replace the battery back in the charger until the charge light starts to blink again. You may have to do this several times until it starts blinking and charging. At that point it will give it a full charge and you can use the batteries. They were awesome batteries and will last a long time when fully charged. You can tell when it's charging because the battery gets warm. They will be fully charged when all three green lights light up on the battery indicator.
