WHAT'S GOING ON WITH CANON?
Gary Drury✓ Verified Purchase•March 17, 2018
I gave THREE stars because I do like the printer, there is nothing to hate when it worked. I can't honestly determine reliability based on recent experience and Google results. Therefore, I genuinely feel THREE stars is a fair rating to keep the scale balanced.
I purchased the Canon CP-1200 4"x6" Photo Printer with high expectations. I own several Canon products including their DSLR. The brand has always been reliable.
Upon receiving my order from Amazon.com the first thing I noticed was multiple stickers on the retail box. A large white label covered image of printer, a smaller white one had text stating NEW. Hmmm . . . Although the shipping box arrived in fantastic shape the retail box containing the printer wasn't in new or like new condition. It was clear that is how it left a warehouse somewhere.
Proceeding with opening everything was clearly present that was originally packed at manufacture. The bubble wrap around the printer itself was somewhat deflated. But seemed okay.
I used the iPhone 6 Plus to record the unboxing video. I printed out two test photos and had to move on with my day.
Over the weekend, I set the Canon CP-1200 Printer up again. Depressed the power button and WHAT the -- The printer turns ON but won't leave the Canon Logo Screen. I wait several minutes while scouring the user manual. found no troubleshooting for this problem. Depressing the power button for any length of time printer remains on and does nothing. Hmmm.
I Google, appears a number of people are having same issue. Primarily with Canon's older model and several with this model. Is it just a case of a small manufacturing batch? Or is it a known flaw Canon hasn't corrected? Whatever, the cause, none of the online solutions prevailed. The printer has you see in video is a brick.
Had this happen sometime after the purchasing return period I would have contacted Canon. It didn't, it happened in the 30 day return period thus it is being returned. I buy new, I certainly wouldn't accept a warranty repair or remanufactured product.
I'm very leery as to whether I will buy another. I have come across a newer model Canon CP-1300 but the ONLY changes I see is the screen size for viewing on the printer itself, and new navigation menu.
It's odd Canon would sell a portable printer without at least a lower capacity battery. Why is the battery an upsell? The printer is supposed to be portable.
Let us hope Canon's quality control is not on a down swing. This would be very sad.
I cannot recommend the Canon CP-1200 Printer based on my poor experience with it. When it worked the prints were very good, printout time was reasonably fast for wireless printing, and its noisy level wasn't bad. As for its reliably I can't say. It may work a few day, a couple of weeks, a month or several years. It is difficult to determine. Do a Google search and it seems like a crapshoot. You can see my youtube video https://youtu.be/4bAeRNiRxwY if you need a visual of what's going on with the printer.
I purchased the a case for this printer. It holds the printer and power brick and barely the paper tray. Having paper tray inside is a very snug fit and you would need careful handling. Since, the case will not be hosting the Canon CP-1200 it will be just fine for other small electronics for travel.

Great quality, reliable
ceventatem✓ Verified Purchase•October 31, 2017
I have been using this printer for a few weeks now and have had no problems so far. The colors are true, the printing is fast, and I have had not had any connection issues with my phone. I have been able to purchase replacement paper/ink at local big box stores but I usually just order it from Amazon.
When shopping for a little phone printer my biggest desire was quality. It doesn't have to be the smallest or the fastest or even the cheapest. For the pictures that really matter I will still order professionally printed photos online, but for everyday pics, or projects where I need something quickly, this lil beast has been perfect.
A dye-sub printer for my phone. What a world!
My biggest complaints at this point are:
- it does not offer multi-image support for its tiny sticker sheets, or any photo support at all. It just prints one giant picture over all the little stickers. Pointless. Don't buy that paper pack until they offer better support.
- The app for this printer is terrible. It does less things than my iPhone's default photo app. Also pointless.
- It crops the photos. It does not give you any options as to how you would like them cropped. I don't mind it cropping them, but wish it would ask for my opinion on the matter. Things get chopped off.
When shopping for a little phone printer my biggest desire was quality. It doesn't have to be the smallest or the fastest or even the cheapest. For the pictures that really matter I will still order professionally printed photos online, but for everyday pics, or projects where I need something quickly, this lil beast has been perfect.
