This is good if you don't have too many birds trying to eat at the same time---but I attract a lot of birds

I put shelled sunflower seeds and suet cakes out on my fire escape in New York City to help mourning doves and house sparrows fatten up for the winter. While this helps keep the rain out of the seeds, I attract a lot of hungry birds (including pigeons) and they fight to get at the seeds in this small feeder, which caused the drawer to come out and break. Now I used a plastic top from a very large plastic tub. It has with edges and compartments all around the perimiter which helps spread out the seeds so that many more birds can feed simultaneously and also keeps the suet cakes from sliding around and falling between the cracks to the neighbors stairs below me. If it rains or snows I bring in the lid until the weather calms down. It also is molded plastic which means it won't break and can easily be washed to avoid spreading disease (or bird poop which they do no matter where they happen to be at the moment).

I have been enjoying watching my bird friends for the past year and have been very happy with this feeder. Almost one year after buying it I had a very courageous squirrel dive bomb the feeder, knock it off the door and break one of the parts. Customer service was excellent, responding within a few hours on a Saturday to offer me 99% off a replacement feeder. So I am ordering the larger one, as I have lots of guests. This time I'll put it on the other glass door, a little farther from the deck railing so Mr. Squirrel will find it harder to jump on board. This has been easy to clean, easy to fill, and relatively no mess, aside from blowing extra seed bits off the deck every once in a while. But no jumping on a ladder to refill.

As someone who knows nothing about birds / bird watching / etc - I love this little house. I bought it about 6 or 7 months ago and put it up in the window. I'd say for the first 4 or 5 months, I never saw a single bird come visit. I read that this is normal as it takes time for the birds to trust the food source. Fast forward - I now have birds out there all the time. I enjoy watching them come and go and I am so happy I got this feeder!

A great window feeder. Our winter/spring birds found the feeders right away and have given my 92 year old mother many pleasurable moments watching them eat. Soon after putting them up we had 40 to 50 mph winds hit our coastline and the feeders did not budge. Also purchased another larger window feeder from you and are very satisfied with both of them.
