This review is for the Slicker Brush Series Self-Cleaning brush. I love this brush and highly recommend it. I bought this 3 months ago after our cat (a short-haired tabby) started coughing up an alarming number of hairballs (four to five per week). We had a natural-bristled brush, but it didn't work well and accumulated fur quickly, so we didn't use it often. This brush is exactly what we needed, and we've seen a drastic decrease in the number of hairballs that cat coughs up (from 4-5 per week to 1 every few weeks). We try to brush her for at least 5 minutes once every day or two. The self-cleaning mechanism makes a huge difference, because the clean bristles do much better job of grabbing fur than a brush that's full of fur, and it takes less than a second to clean all the hair out of the brush. My only issue with it is that there is still "fly away" fur that winds up on furniture or floating off when you're brushing, but to a much lesser extent than any other brush I've used. For comparison, at the same time I bought this, I also purchased a grooming mitt glove (Better Petter Dog & Cat Brush Glove - Gentle Grooming Mitt Your Pet Will Love) in the hopes that we'd solve the hairball problem by having an abundance of hair-removal items. The glove wound up in a drawer, it does not grab fur well, we'd wind up with a ton of loose fur lying around afterwards, very little stayed on the mitt, and the fur that did stick to the mitt was impossible to clean off. The Self-Cleaning Slicker Brush isn't perfect, but I doubt there's a better brush out there.

Pros:
- grabs short fur well
- cat enjoys it to a point, we usually get a good 5 minutes of brushing in each session before she decides she's had enough
- self-cleaning mechanism works well and makes the brush fun to use

Cons:
- loose fur still flies away from the brush, some loose fur always seems to be left on the cat
- wire bristles seem to bend, but I haven't noticed an impact on the effectiveness

I have a bunny that is very particular about things. For grooming, I used a grooming mitt that really doesn't do much. Plus he would run away when I tried to brush him. But this product. Not only did it pick up A LOT of fur, but also, he sat there letting me groom him completely even his sides (which he usually doesn't like anyone touching lol). Cleaning this brush was so simple too! I love it! Thank you!

This is a really great slicker brush! It is better than the one that I bought at a cat show and spent $35 on. The self cleaning function works great, and the wire bristles are effective and gentle, kitty even happily allows me use it on his belly and tail which he would not allow with the last slicker brush he had. I was really pissed when my jack russell puppy got ahold of the old one and chewed the handle up, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise... I like this replacement better and kitty does too! :)

I have a long hair cat with a thick wooly undercoat and the only way I have been able to keep her groomed is to take her to a vet to get the tangles cut out. I bought the dematting comb along with the slicker brush. I used the slicker at first. A self cleaning brush is the ONLY way it could be done or it would have taken hours rather than minutes. After a few days I started using the dematting comb and it was amazing and easy. After about a week my cat looked totally different and well groomed. It is not her most favorite thing to do but she realizes the results are well worth a few minutes of brushing every few days.

This works like a charm on my maine coon cat. He has really thick fur, and this brush glides right through his hair ! It is so easy to clean also. Great purchase !
