I've had this clamp for a few years. Have used it mostly while on travel but also at home to attach my Nintendo Switch or my tablet to the bed headboard or the nightstand. I've also used it on planes. I recently lost the clamp and wish there was an option to buy just the clamp.
Just buy it, critics be damned!

First let me say that I purchased this item from amazon and was in no way compensated by this company for this review. I have had dealings with their customer support and it is for that reason that even with the short coming of this item, they have received a 5 star rating.

Ok, so I have seen some of the criticisms of this stand/holder and they range from complaints about the plastic to the stiffness, and or bounciness of this item.
First: yes, it has plastic, if you don't want plastic, find another product that is going to cost you much more and provide none of the flexibility of this product.
Second: Is the flexible part stiff and hard to shape... yes... but if it were not so then it would sag every time you used it.
Third: is it bouncy... yes.. what do you expect? it is an ADJUSTABLE arm that can be put into most any shape withing reason. How it is that people would expect anything different is beyond comprehension.
Fourth: Does it break... yes... anything will break if you apply to much force or in the case of this stand, at the base where the clamp is. This apparently is not common sense so people need to be told to not be overly aggressive with something at its weakest point.

Rant over!
I have had it for a couple of months now and here is my take on it, It is a nice item to have and once I played with it for a bit I found a shape (spiral) that best suited my use. It is a bit springy which makes touch screen a bit of a pain but it also allows us to use it in unconventional places where a normal stand type would not work. I originally purchased it for my iPad, unfortunately, the clamp is not deep enough to hold my iPad [ http://a.co/d/6SAqD3G ] in its protective case [ http://a.co/d/4vSKCrf ] because in the back of the case is a hand strap and kickstand. I then decided to see if it would work for my wife's Surface pro, and it did, so it currently resides on the headboard of our bed on my wife's side where she mounts the surface pro so she can watch videos with here headphones on instead of turning on the TV. The weight of the surface pro is not an issue and there is no sag. I shaped the arm into a spiral shape and pressed the rings closely together to minimize the springiness of it. While not perfect, it works extremely well, all my wife does is hold one corner of the tablet while using the touch screen with the other. I eventually got a follow up message from this company in regards to the item and whether or not I am happy with it. I explained the issue with my ipad case but that my wife uses it for her surface pro. They quickly got back to me and offered to take the item back for a full refund since it did not meet my needs. Now for those that complain about this product, I have only one question, did you contact customer support? I understand that there are going to be problem units, but I also know that people will complain just to complain. I wholly support putting information out about a bad product and have done so on occasion myself but I always add that the issue I had is based on one unit that I received and may not reflect the product as a whole. I have no complaints about this product or this company, I have purchased two products from them and have yet to see any of the issues others have complained about. Maybe i'm lucky but I think that it has more to do with managing expectations and not abusing the products. I highly recommend this product for two reasons, first, it is actually a very good product that is durable as long as you are not heavy handed when using it. Two, they have taken a page out of the amazon customer service handbook and made it better. Their customer service is amazingly responsive, professional and courteous. I would and will buy from this company again because I know that if the product is not up to my standards then they are willing to make things right within reason. A big thumbs up for a very cool product and the amazing customer service rep Kevin that deserves a raise for dealing with a difficult person like me. I hope this review helped

Oh yeah, one last thing, the clip (that holds your table or phone depending on which one you get) uses a very strong spring which is needed to hold things in place. It is made of plastic which keeps the weight down and keeps the arm from sagging, this plastic will eventually break if you allow it to snap shut when you remove you phone or tablet. If you don't want it to break then use a little common sense and don't allow it to snap closed, that should be a no brainer but from looking at some of the reviews, apparently it needs to be said out loud.
For the price this thing is killer! BUT..

I couldn't believe how stiff and sturdy this thing was as I was expecting something that barely held my iPad up. I do wish the arm was just a bit longer, as I can't put it above my head in bed because it doesn't come down far enough for my neck to not be torqued up. Overall it's been super, but, it didn't take a bit out of my friends table yesterday :( I had it tightened right on the foam pads inside and didn't do it too tight, yet this happened. The padding on the gripper that tightens down is really thin, and doesn't span the entire length of the little hands so if you tighten it down when more than just the pads are on the surface it'll do some damage :(
i’ll get my money’s worth

I like the product - i do. it was very easy to put together. It holds my kindle and my cell phone. it easily clamps to my bed frame and my desk. the "problem" is that the the arm is sooo hard to adjust, which i guess can be a good thing to some people. its too hard though in my opinion, you definitely need two hands and a little bit of force to get the arm in the position you want it in. but again i do like it, it does what it says it will.
Works for everything
