I'm a professional Gunsmith and have been looking for a quality workbench mat for a very long time. I wore out my felt, German made ones that I can no longer obtain so I had to look around... In comparison to felt, Nylon just doesn't work, it stretches, warps you can poke holes in it etc.. Same goes for rubber and other similarly advertised gunsmithing mats. In my opinion they are hobby grade but not for everyday heavy duty use.
This green mat makes it my 4th so far and its been working great. It protects expensive firearms, parts, highly finished wood and does not snag or leave any felt fibers anywhere. Great product, I'll be buying more soon :-)
