Everything you need to make your own network cables in one very affordable kit.
Loral R. Johnson✓ Verified PurchaseSeptember 7, 2017
Everything you need to make your own network cables. Punch block tool, crimper, RJ45 ends, and a cable tester. I had all these parts, but over time, they seem to get misplaced, and at this price and what my time is worth, it is cheaper to get the kit.
If you're not very experience crimping ends, you'll love the tester. You put the small part on one end, and the larger end on the other; turn it on and what the cascading light display. If they go from 1 to 8 and all light and in the correct order, you're good to go. If not, you need to cut the end off and put another on. This is so convenient when you are running cable over a long distance and you're working alone, or even just making a short drop. Nothing worse than "hoping" your cable is wired correctly.
Crimper is good quality.
Not easy with Cat5

Love the remote tester - it worked well for me. The cat5 cable jacket stripper worked well for me. The crimper worked well for me. The only thing that I found extremely frustrating was trying to get all 8 wires to lie flat and to force/feed them into the 8 channels in the plug. I watched several videos but was unable to do it as easily as they show. Either the insulation on my cable wires is slightly too wide, or the wire channel diameters in the plug are slightly too tight, or I am just a klutz. The only way I could make the cables was by stripping the wires back a full inch and a half, cutting them at a slight angle, and using a pair of needle nose pliers to manipulate/force each wire into its own channel. The problem with this is that the cable jacket does not get crimped/strain-relieved.
You don't really need anything else for a whole home project

I suddenly had a desire to wire my house due to constant wifi issues. I have never crimped ethernet cables before, but had some familiarity with various audio/video wiring. Since this was going to be a one time project, I didn't feel the need to invest in professional level tools. I wired the whole house and made a ton of patch cables with just this kit. The crimper is pretty good quality as far as I can tell. I'm not a pro, but I can't see them failing with regular, non-abusive use. I wasn't anticipating using the other pieces of this kit, but got them just in case. I was pleasantly surprised that I used the heck out of every included tool and even used the terminal plugs. This is really all you need to wire your house or make patch cables. It can do RJ11's as well. I used the wire stripper, the wire stripper's punch down tool for my patch panel, and the tester for every cable I made. I was hoping this would just last me through the project, but everything is high quality enough to use for years to come for the occasional project. Great value. I have a roll of cat 6 and now with this kit, I can make any length cable whenever I need more or just another size. One note, the plugs are technically cat 5e, so get some new plugs if you want cat 6 rated cables.
all good! I made in total 12 cat6 cable and ...

Ok, not sure what the other complains are about. Yes it is a cheap kit, you get what you pay, jeeez. But to be honest, all good! I made in total 12 cat6 cable and used the included plugs and tested with the included tester. All went well I have nothing to complain. I sometimes messed up with the colored wire order and had to cut and do it again but that's when the tester comes in handy. I never did that before and after the project was completed I'm pretty confident now and would do it any day again used the kit.

And as mentioned before, the included connectors are good, i ordered a separate bag on Amazon cause I didn't pay attention that the kit had some included and the separate ordered once were really bad compare to the ones in the kit.
I ordered this to allow me to repair the bad cables, and shorten the excessively long cable

I had several old CAT5e cables laying around that had the retainer tangs broken off. I had also accidentally grabbed then wrong cable one day and routed a 50' cable across my basement ceiling where I had intended to only use a 35' foot cable. So, I ordered this to allow me to repair the bad cables, and shorten the excessively long cable. I did waste one connector when I first tried to use it, but otherwise, this tool worked flawlessly. Sure, it's not a professional grade tool, but it's much better than many of the cheap DIY tools out there.

The cable test basically injects a voltage down each conductor, one at a time, so you can see that #1 = #4 on the other end, etc. This means you do need to know the pattern you're looking for, but it serves the purpose and gets the job done (and it did catch one bad cable I made where the conductor moved positions without me catching it).
