Hard to find locally. Better look than open pvc pipe

Had a power vented water heater with a 3" pvc (measured internally) pipe sticking straight out of the side of the house. It was angled ever so slightly up and we didn't like the idea of rainwater going into the pipe. Bought a 22 1/2 degree 3" pvc elbow with female connections on both ends. The 45 degree elbows restrict airflow more and you don't want that. One end slips on the pipe and this item fits inside the other end snugly. No glue for us on either end. There is a drain notch on this item so make sure it is at the 6 o'clock position to allow any moisture to find its way out.
Perfect solution to open vents.

These covers are great. I recently had a new furnace and water heater installed which were vented to the outside with PVC piping, one with 3" and one with 2". The outside ends did have flare fittings on the end but were not covered. I didn't like the idea of these vents being completely open and these seem ideal. It may have been the size of the existing flare fitting on the 2" installed by the HVAC guys, but I did find that the diameter of the 2" was slightly too large to fit, however a few minutes with a sander on the outside of the 2" cover trimmed it down enough to fit. The HVAC vendor said that freezing condensation in the winter on the furnace might be a problem and that a screen might restrict the airflow on the vent prompting a diagnostic warning, however the mesh doesn't seem like it could possibly restrict the flow sufficiently to be noticed. The groove in the bottom is supposed to allow condensation to drain, so we'll find out how it works after a good long winter!
Stop Using Drain Covers for Gas/Propane Venting - These are FAR Better!

After unsuccessfully searching Lowes and Home Deport for a suitable cap for the propane venting for my hot water heater, I found these on Amazon and purchased 2 of them. My plumber had used drain covers on the venting, but it looked to me like it was restricting the air flow. After the replacement I could feel an airflow difference on the intake. They slide right in to the 90 degree elbow on the side of the house and allow for maximum air flow but still keep the bugs and rodents out. I did not glue mine in because they fit so snug without the glue. There is a tiny notch in them if you need to take them out for any reason. It's pretty rare to find a perfectly made product these days, but these definitely fit the bill.

This product is a good product and it worked well. My old vent on the exhaust side kept getting blown off by back pressure . . . not good. I held the old one and the new one up to the exhaust vent to compare the back pressure and this new one was noticeably less. I thought it was a little on the pricey side so I only bought two instead of four for my two exhaust lines on the furnace and the water heater. I still have the older plastic ones for the intake lines since the intake volume is a little less than the exhaust and the CO measurements look good.

I used the 3in version of these for installing a new noritz direct vent tankless water heater. These worked perfect and were lass than half of the price of the noritz alternative. There are several reviews that stated these do not fit as intended, I did not find that to be the case. They must however be installed in the hub end of a fitting, not directly in the 3" pipe. If your vent terminates in a plain pipe you will need to purchase a standard pvc coupler in order to install this screen
