Perfect as a desk writing mat

Because of another review that I read I purchased this to use at work as a desk writing mat (I really dislike those black and brown ones, boring). I love it, the other reviewer was correct, it is thick and very sturdy, and gives a decorative but still professional look to my desk top. I can even use my computer mouse on. I have not put a hot cup on it but I have placed cold drinks on it and it wipes clean. I am so pleased with this cutting mat that I am going to purchase one for my home desk. I may have started a trend in my office because several co-workers said that they want to purchase this mat for their desk also.

I was looking for a cutting mat that didn't smell. Most mats I came across in local stores all had a really bad odor. I am sensitive to smells. I started doing research about cutting mats and came across this one on Amazon. While it stated no odor, I was still skeptical. I went ahead and bought the 24 x 36" mat. It arrived in a flat box ( not rolled up) and was heavier than I expected. It is a thicker mat and the weight keeps it from sliding around on my table. I took the plastic cover off and there was a bit of odor from the wrap, but within an hour there was absolutely no smell! I was not bothered at all. This is my first cutting mat and I am very happy with it. I had bought a Fiskars rotary cutter and it didn't seem to cut evenly. I read that OLFA cutters were recommended for this mat, so I bought one (from Amazon) and it made a big difference. It cuts perfectly. I have to agree with others, that it would be nice to have "inches" on both sides as an option. I have used the mat several times this week and really like it. I am glad that I paid a bit more for this mat because it really has no smell. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

This is a very nice craft mat.The markings are very distinct and easy to read. It does not smell at all. Overall I am very pleased with this item. 5 stars.
However, the way this mat was shipped was just terrible. Amazon shipped it in a flattened box. The end flaps were not folded over. The edges were taped in a few places on each open side. It was not taped along the length of the open sides. The corners of the box weren't taped so during shipping, the mat just slid around the box and damaged each corner. I understand this is an awkward item to ship but Amazon really dropped the ball on this one. At least it wasn't folded!

Purchased this mat as it was advertised as odorless, and it is. It arrived flat, not folded or rolled, and I could use it immediately. It is nice and thick, with grids on both sides...like getting two mats for the price of one. The surface is not slippery like my old mat, so my accuracy has improved with this mat. I use it to cut fabric for quilting. The quarter inch grid is very useful. I have been using a very old and worn mat as I was unable to find a suitable replacement until I found this mat...it is a top-of-line product and I expect to get many frustration-free years of use from it.

I just received my mat, so I have only used it a few times - but, it is a great quality mat - thicker than most & has no odor. It was shipped in a large box and arrived with just a very slight curve in the mat. It happened to be sunny and a bit chilly the day it arrived, but I put it in the sun on the back deck anyway. After about an hour, it flattened out nicely.
I was impressed when I received an email from the company to make sure my mat arrived in good condition and to see if I had any questions. I would definitely buy from Calibre Art again!
