Great whistle.

So here's the deal; this is an improved model of the basic Feadog D whistle...it has a thicker walled brass tubing and you can actually feel the difference in weight. As far as I know the head design is the same as the basic model. The sound is a bit "fuller" than the basic model as well and at least for me the transition between octaves is easier. The head can be loosened to make it tuneable. It is however a Feadog and has all of the little things that go along with that. It is pretty breath sensitive, and has that traditional chiff that slot if people like. If you are having trouble with a whistle it is probably you and not the whistle. For the price this is a great starter or intermediate whistle, but even the most experienced player can enjoy it.

I purchased several different cheap whistles to try them out and I found this one to be pretty decent. It's heavier and feels sturdier than most of the competition and both the upper and lower octave sound easily and are more or less in tune.
While I wouldn't recommend this over my number one pick, the Clarke Sweetone, if you're someone who doesn't like that whistle's cleaner tone and want the rougher texture of more traditional whistles then this makes for a good second choice. It's more nicely made and better playing than Generation whistles though I didn't find it that much of an improvement over the regular Feadog other than the heft of its material which did add some volume.

You get what you pay for: mostly good, slightly off pitch, fair for the price.

On mine the high E is finicky and requires such a high precision to play, that with practice I've gotten it to work 70% of the time. I'm sure each one will have its own unique flaws from mass production and minimal quality check, but I figure this is what allow this otherwise fine sounding instrument to still sell for so low a cost.
