My cheap portable RO system worked just Ok and I was looking for a way to improve it. The 2 original filters: a sediment and a carbon filter, are both rated at 5 microns. So I planed to add a very fine 1 micron full size filter and this housing fits the bill. I was just not sure "what size" fittings to use for the inlet and outlet( wish they specified). 1/4" male threads? 3/8"?

Note: the reason why I have to edit my review is that my pictures are not arranged in order( even the ones showing in the bottom of review and the ones in "customer pictures" are arranged differently).Let us go with the ones on the bottom of my review.

As I was still looking for an answer, I saw there were replacement carbon filters available with "built-in" fittings( That's the filter on the very right. Picture 2 shows the built-in fitting)! A thought came to my mind: I could probably use the fittings that were on the original filter! And YES they went on the new housing perfectly( picture 4 shows the fittings I removed from the original carbon filter went on the new filter housing perfectly)! No leaks.

So this ended up an easy and inexpensive project( 1 micron 10 inch filter about $2 each; carbon filter about $6 at ebay). When it's time to replace the original sediment filter I'll just use another carbon filter, since now I have a great sediment filter, and save the 2 fittings for future use.

Replaced a cracked canister with this one. It worked just fine.

Nice solid housing, looks like it will hold up great for years. It screws up tight and mine was leak free. I like the 1/4" ports, works great for my ice maker which uses 1/4" braided stainless hoses. No need for 3/4" adapters, just 1/4" hex nipples to 1/4" compression adapters to the 1/4" hoses. Its more compact with the 1/4" brass fittings.

I inherited a 3 stage water filter with a new house. And out of nowhere the sediment canister sprouted a small leak in the plastic (how???!). This was a perfect replacement. The top screws off and I just took the filter out of the old leaky canister and put it in this one. It screwed into the existing base without any problem at all. Leak fixed. Problem solved.
