All right. I bought all three of these nail clippers. I got them yesterday, and I took them to work today (dog groomer). The first thing I noticed upon holding them was that they felt cheap. The handles are thin (which, btw, results in the edges digging uncomfortably into your hand when you close them) and light, and I just didn't have a good feeling. Once I started clipping, that feeling just got worse. The blades were decently sharp, but the clippers just weren't sturdy at all. I was thinking I wouldn't be surprised if they just broke, when the little black latch that holds them together just popped right off. The product description says "Parts will not loose or fall apart, making this a top quality professional dog nail clippers." This is not true.

I don't feel like these are trustworthy clippers, and I'm going to have to buy at least a pair of large clippers elsewhere (I usually use Safari brand and may just return to those). The small/medium ones are borderline useless except maybe toy-sized dogs, cats, and small pets. For anything bigger than a Yorkie or Maltese, I'd probably use the large clippers (even though I should be able to use sm/md clippers for most dogs up to 50ish lbs), BUT I don't feel I can use even the "Large" clippers on a large dog, or one with thick nails. I'm pretty sure they'd break (not just popping the latch, either).

It's a shame. I like that the company donates part of its profits to animal rescue, and I actually really like the angle they're set at. And maybe they're ok if you're using them for your pet dog and ordered a "size up." But as a profesional of 13+ years, I do not consider these to be professional products at all. This review is for the dog nail clippers; I haven't used the cat clippers but don't foresee an issue with them.

These clippers are unusable. Tried to cut my 14lb small dog's nails, but quickly realized instead of cutting through the nail, they were slipping off it! The only way I could get them to get through the nail was by cutting off a large portion (which I'm hesitant to do since my girl's nails are black). When I used this method, instead of cutting they crushed the nail, leaving it moderately splintered (poor girl).
To test that I didn't suddenly forget how to cut my dog's nails, and that she didn't grow reinforced, super strength nails since last week (when I last cut them) I used the old ones I was replacing and they cut fine.
A majority of other reviews mention their sharpness so these may have been a dud, but I don't think I'm going to buy them again.

My cat is relatively small (8 pounds), so I selected these clippers because they seemed to be small enough to make it as easy as possible to use and still have a good grip on both the clippers and the cat! The only drawback to these clippers is that they don't have a safety closure. Otherwise, they'd get 5 stars from me. UPDATE: My vet likes these clippers, and told me that she prefers clippers that do NOT have "guards" or safety closures because they get into her way, slowing down the procedure.

I'm not sure what I was expecting exactly, but I thought these would be noticeably better than the dollar store nail clippers I had before. They're not. They're fine! They work! But it's not like trimming my cats nails is suddenly buttery smooth or anything. I don't know if this means they're not that great, or if the dollar store clippers happened to be really good, but since my experience was the same for both, it's not worth paying the extra cost for these ones.

Opinion: I've used these clippers twice since receiving them and they have done a great job at trimming cat nails. They do not spinter the nail and make a precise cut.

Packaging: Pet Republique does a good job a providing good pictures to represent what you will get when ordering their product.

Build Quality: The steel clippers are sharp and cut very clean. The grip area is a solid black plastic surrounded by a soft rubberized grip for a firm grip when cutting. This is a great feature to avoid any possibility of slippage.

This is a great product for cats & small dog nails and I am confident it will work for your pet needs.
