Good camera, inconsistent latch release
Quiteno John✓ Verified Purchase•January 27, 2018
Camera is great and I love the idea of being able to replace the factory tailgate handle with one that includes a camera but the handle release feels kind of sketchy. It would have been nice if the connector was the little round one they use for the mirror connection so it would go into the tailgate through the drain holes.
Great latch, great camera

This is a great solution to add a backup camera to a Tacoma with an OEM look. The latch installed easily, and the camera provides a clear, wide-angled view to the rear. You do have to drill a hole in your tailgate to run wiring, but if you're willing to do that, this is an excellent addition. Mine seamlessly feeds an aftermarket head unit (Sony XAV-AX100), and makes backing up much safer. I wired my camera to the backup lights, so the camera is only one while the truck is in reverse. I'm considering rewiring to the trailer harness to get full-time power, as there are times it would be nice to have the camera on when not in reverse. Overall, I would buy this item again in a heartbeat.
Preliminary Review of Rearview Camera

This brand was unknown to me, but I decided to give it a try. The tailgate handle itself fits well, and is molded from metal, not plastic. The wiring is nicely wrapped in wire looming, and appears to be a reasonably heavy gauge, given its purpose. I'm hooking it to a Kenwood receiver using the attached RCA connectors. A second review will detail my experience with the picture resolution and quality. but my initial thoughts are that the product appears to be well made.

The camera worked on my double-cab 4x4 2010 Tacoma. It was a doozy to install though. My husband tried to do it on his own because the wiring colors did not match. But as the seller had recommended, I took my truck to Best Buy and the tech there was able to fix the problem within less than an hour. Parallel parking the truck is so tough because of the huge blind spot. I'm happy to have a back-up camera again and it was money well spent since the Toyota dealership would have charged me at least $1,000 to get a new one installed from their factory.
Stoked!

Super stoked on the functioning tailgate camera! First time I ordered, the camera was not functioning (super rare..). I contacted the seller and immediately received a new camera in 2 days, and now it works perfectly! The handle function is tight, and I haven't had any issues with it the last few weeks. The camera is clear (depends on your headunit as well), and I can finally see exactly where I am backing up! Also another great thing is that it lines up well with the back bumper. I've seen some cameras which don't line up well and causes you to misjudge your parking job.
Overall..It is worth the money! Super easy to run the wires, plenty of cable, and a solid handle.
