Use it on my Octave Mandolin
Apocalyptic Optimist•June 2, 2017
Fantastic pickup. Clearly captures the sound of the instrument and is easy to setup. It works perfectly on my octave mandolin. I may switch to the model that has volume control though, as this pickup is very sensitive and prone to feedback. Otherwise I recommend it.
Exactly What I Needed to Amplify my Old Stringed Instrument!

Kremona (kna) is a European manufacturing company known for its high-quality classical guitars and similar musical instruments. Thus, one might well trust a Kremona Brand sound pickup if s//he wants to amplify an acoustic string insturment. Well, yes, indeed! For a very affordable cost (only slightly more for one with an attached volume control), this small, attractive wooden contact mic solves the amplification problem for owners of stringed instruments which they don't wish to alter physically, including those which also are impossible to fit with a guitar-sized soundhole pickup. Personally, I use the Kremona AP-1 to increase the volume of my old lap dulcimer. This style of dulcimer traditionally is known as a quiet, Early American "family parlor" instrument, one whose sound isn't designed to carry over much distance (unless now amp'ed). The dulcimer's sound holes being very small, decorative, and irregular in shape renders a guitar's soundhole pickup impossible to use in them, plus I really don't want to drill extra holes and add internal components. Hence, I use the Kremona, which conveys the sound to an amp both loudly and accurately. I have tried the cheap clip-on type pickups, but I don't recommend them, for their sound quality is undependable. Therefore, if you have an acoustic guitar, ukulele, dulcimer, banjo, mandolin, violin, or any other personal string instrument, and you're looking for an easy, non-messy, yet natural-sounding way to "electrify" it for the purpose of performance or recording, then the Kremona AP-1 "Acoustic Guitar (and more) Pickup" may be your low-cost, high-quality solution. It certainly is mine!
OK, now I love it

Initially I was underwhelmed until my under saddle pickup died on my "go to" instrument and I needed to amplify an expensive acoustic Baritone uke on the fly. The below info is still true, but when you run this through a really good pre-amp into a PA, you get loud enough to play over a frontline or horns, pretty good acoustic sound, no feed back. Sounds better than an under saddle pickup, a little boomy, but I'm loving it now.
Here's my old review: VERY sensitive and moving it a 1/4 inch will completely change your tone and sound, so initially it might sound crappy, take some time and dial it in. You need to run it through a decent pre-amp to get volume and get the sound you want. I'm using to amp a Martin Baritone Uke and adhering it with Earthquake putty, then running it through a Bagg Para DI into an amp. I purchased this trough Amazon Warehouse so I got a big discount on it.

Perfect sound

It's fantastic. It sounds exactly the same as swell place condenser microphone. Use the putty and position it just right (behind the bridge, that's the sweet spot, as pictured,) and it'll sound great. If the putty gives me trouble I'll go ahead and use the sticker.
Great product & Company!

Works very nicely on my Gibson Blues King but I can't keep it on my guitar. Keeps falling off the guitar every time I move. I really do like it but can't use it. And just got a reply from a Sean at Kremona offering some help. Much appreciated! If it helps anyone with a guitar with a nitro-cellulose finish, the putty worked well on my Gibson and the finish cleaned off with a light spray wax/cleaner.
And this evening I received a follow-up email from Sean at Kremona checking if the product was working well. It is. Good customer service.
