I bought four of these "BLACK+DECKER BDT70WT 70 Pint Energy Star Portable Dehumidifier" units to dry up the crawl space under my house after a flood. They don't seem to work well at all in this application.
While waiting to get them set up under house, I did try out one in a bedroom with connected bathroom and closet. It did remove several buckets of water. So yesterday, I carefully set up and leveled two of them in the crawl space and provided a drain with proper slope for each with ½" PVC pipe from the hose fitting on back of the units.
Initially, one of them was "making water"; but, after getting the second set up on the same 15A GFI electrical circuit they act weird and are not making water. The current that this combination of 2 humidifiers draws cycles between about 0.5A, 1.0A, and for a short period, 13.0A. I have set the controls for low fan and continuous operation. The initial humidity reading is 85 or 90 percent. I believe that the manual or nameplate say that they should draw 6.5A each. Why am I not seeing water come out of the drain pipes?
I tested one by itself (see picture) with settings at power on and low fan. It drew 6 to 7A and filled the bucket but no water came out the drain pipe. I tried the forth with the cap on the drain pipe. It captured about 2.9 pints an hour in its bucket with the input air humidity measuring 80 percent.

Humidistat doesn't work properly (right out of box) so unit thinks it's 90 percent humidity at all times and remains on no matter the mode or settings selected. Timer is a joke as it's only meant to EITHER turn it on OR off, but not both (defeating the functionality of a timer altogether). Can't figure out how to make this unit really productive without returning (threw out box and plumbed the draining system into house waste) so out of options except to purchase a programmable timer and hope it doesn't die like it has for so many others! Wish me luck. I'll report back in 12 months.

So far so good, this helped a lot with my allergies this season. We live in an old property with not enough circulation and the humidity, dander and dust was becoming unbearable. This changed all that almost instantly. I think it's comparable to the more expensive ones.

OH MY HEAVENS! This is just the best DEHUMIDIFIER EVER! We have HVAC up and down. However, we felt like the air was heavy! After having Heating and Cooling companies times three, they all said the same thing. Unit up was to LARGE and kicked off to quickly to remove all the HUMIDITY in the air.

Now if you have an unlimited budget which most of us DO NOT, we cold have spent 5K and replaced it. Instead we found a great buy in this unit. I live in West Virginia, we get vey HUMID, HOT, Summers and it fills up every day! Key features I love about it, first its very compact. We have a 1973 2 story & the hall way is more narrow than newer construction. I didn't want something like we had saw at the box stores that stuck out to trip over or bang my knee in a hurry. Its about the size of a medium home paper shredder. When it fills up, it sounds an audible alarm and a RED LED light comes on, so if you don't hear it, its easy to see. The water compartment is easy to take out empty and put back in. Comes with everything you need if you have it somewhere like under a crawl space to put down a drain! Additionally, it has a Air intake FILTER, that cleans right up! Easy out and easy back in. ITS GREAT!

If you keep a boat laid up in Florida, this is a necessary evil. We drained it into the sink and out of the boat. No mildew in the 9 weeks the boat was laid up.
