The five star rating is really for the Seller who provides excellent service. I have a lot of DE razors and reference this product:: It is what is advertised, while not in the league of my expensive DE razors this is an excellent product for the price. Have not used it but upon examination it is of higher quality than most of the low end razors, i.e., good finish, operation, and blade exposure even. Have no doubt this will provide a satisfactory shave with the right blade matched to your skin as is the case with all DE razors. Personnas are a excellent all around blade for most to start off with which are available everywhere. I use the Personnas for my bench mark blade by which to judge DE blades.

I ordered this kit primarily for the included razor stand. The cost of the kit was less than a similar stand alone from other sources. The stand will accompany an expensive razor I purchased as a gift. As a plus, the case that comes in this kit, while plastic, it has a recessed and fitted slot for the razor and will fit most standard double edge razors, along with a inside mirror attached to the lid and a slot for extra razor blades.

The Seller is excellent in all respects, shipping speed - communication responses - and packaging.

This is the first razor I bought when looking into safety razors. I think it has a very nice weight to it. The butterfly action makes it very easy to replace the blades and I would not recommend a razor without the butterfly opening. Not going to lie - I picked this razor because of the stand. It's worth it! Looks very nice on my bathroom counter.

Other notes - I am not picky about my blades, but I wouldn't use the ones that come with it. Pick up a pack of Van der Hagen blades from Walmart/Target/etc (5 for $2.50) or if you're reading to make the plunge, 100 Dorco ST300 Double Edge Razor Blades/ Stainless Steel by Original Dorco these Dorco blades are nice (100 for ~$8).

Still getting used to shaving my legs without cutting myself around the knees, but that takes practice. Otherwise, I get an amazingly close shave that stays smooth for days. Plus I can get 100 high quality replacement blades for like $25 so you can't beat the price of maintenance.
I really like the butterfly open feature rather than the whole twist off handle that most have, and the travel case is great. My only recommendation would be to make sure you clean and dry it after every use so that the blade doesn't rust in the handle. I read somewhere that it's not a bad idea to pour or dip it in rubbing alcohol after each use to sanitize as well as help to dry it completely. Overall, I love this razor so far. I'm still nervous about shaving my underarms and bikini line with it though. I think I'll master the legs first.

It's really not that bad for the price. I also shave with the Merkur HD 34C and while I prefer that razor this is still not bad. I get almost the same sort of shave, although I think the Merkur feels studier and like it will last longer than this one. Changing blades is very simple. I am prone to a bit more cuts and nicks with this than the Merkur, but I'm not disappointed in the purchase. It's under my sink as a backup blade or maybe to travel with. If you can afford a better razor I recommend Merkur, but this isn't bad for the price.

Back to the basics. This double edge razor is like turning back the clock. I, for one, had become tired of the "who can put the most blades on a single cartridge" battle that seemed to raise the price of a blade exponentially. Every couple of years you had to buy a battery powered device that was then loaded with expensive disposable cartridges. Each one providing a smoother, and better shave than the previous rendering. BS! A razor is a razor- I have actually enjoyed the shave of "yesteryear". I have enough blades to last me the rest of my life- and they cost less than a card of a dozen or so refills at the "big box stores". The net result is the same- a clean shave. It doesn't save me time, make the experience any more enjoyable, but it does give me the satisfaction of knowing that I no longer "buy into" the marketing hype that multi blades are worth the crazy prices that are being charged by the big names.
