I purchased this to access an old hard drive we removed from a Gateway desktop. It's is a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 80 GB 3.5 IDE drive. I followed the enclosed instructions; drive would spin but wouldn't show up on any computer. Took some digging to discover that I needed to remove the jumper from the drive, even though the instructions said to set it to "master". Once I did that it worked perfectly. I'll be trying it on a newer SATA drive soon and will update my review if needed. Certainly worth the price to confirm that I had, in fact, removed all my important items from the drive.

I had to try multiple USB 3.0 ports on my laptop for the computer to recognize the new 2 TB 2.5 inch western digital drive attached to this adapter but eventually it worked and I was able to clone my laptop drive to the new drive. It took about 2 hours to clone the 1TB drive on the laptop but is was successful. I recommend the product.
