Excellent product

After our warhorse of a clock radio bit the dust, finding a replacement was like going down a rabbit hole. Bought several in the $30+ range; they did not keep time (how is that even possible?), the phone charging connection (the one upgrade I was excited about) stopped working almost immediately, and the clock radios themselves died with a whimper within several months. Delighted to find the Sound Rise.

Pros: Beautifully crafted clock radio. Excellent sound; balanced, rich and fills the room, with a few helpful options to adjust balance. Radio connection works well with antennae and Bluetooth sound quality is excellent. Phone charging connection is a lovely perk Has helpful options to dim the time display. It's also a beautiful looking clock radio. Has an elegant design and does not take up a lot of room. Unsure if the taupe/wood version would be drab, but it is stylish and attractive. Easy to operate and well-designed and the instructions were clear and helpful. And it keeps time! This is the clock radio I was searching for.

Cons: These were out of stock for months. Don't know what the supply issues are with the company, but it's frustrating that their website is never updated to reflect when items may be back in stock. Signed up for their mailing list to be notified, but never heard back. Might have waited for some of the other designs, but no way to know; when I emailed, I heard back after several days that they would not be available in the foreseeable future. For a company that puts so much care into their product, the failure to update the website is baffling. However, after pondering the rating, while this was frustrating, none of this takes away from this high quality product.
Good aesthetics, nice sound, solid functions

Ordered this to replace my alarm clock that had been progressively slowing and not going off at all. It's stupid difficult finding a quality alarm clock these days.

This clock isn't perfect but it's the best I've found in a long time! First, it's gorgeous. And at this price point, it better have good aesthetics and solid functionality. This clock feels solid; I doubt my cats are going to tip it like some other clocks I've tried. For some reason, I was picturing a larger clock that might overwhelm my nightstand. It's actually a nice size -- only slightly larger than my old clock. The display is crisp, not too cluttered, and in a nice white LED. Iconography is used for some functions but it's self-explanatory.

You can adjust the display brightness and the alarm tone via buttons on the back. It also has a "blackout" mode, which turns the display off (you can press any button to turn it on for a moment.) Very helpful, since I tend to turn the face away from me when I go to bed.

The controls were intuitive and I had it setup and ready to go in no time. You have 2 alarms, which you can set for a specific day or grouping (work week, weekend, all). Simply press and hold alarm button 1 or 2 (or press the button and then press setup) to set your alarm.

The pairing was super easy and fast. I played a few test songs, including rock, pop, ambient, and violin dubstep. I really liked the quality of the sound. It wasn't tinny like some I've tried. Probably not audiophile quality, but still a nice full sound.

I think this is going to work out well! I'll update this review once I've used it a few nights.
Disappointing sound, above average alarm - It's good because unfortunately there isn't a better option at this price
R. ConApril 14, 2016
I am writing this review after the company contacted me and asked me to write them a five star review - unfortunately this is not a five star product.

The alarm is nicely featured and provides the necessary features that one would need in radio/alarm:
Pros:
-Dual Alarms you can set at different times and days, wake to alarm, buzzer, radio or Bluetooth.
-It offers a gradual increase in the sound as the alarm activates (an absolute must!)
-Legible display that isn't overly bright.
-Attractive design with a very small footprint
-Bluetooth
-Backup battery

Cons:
-The sound quality is that of a $29.95 radio - with decent highs, below average mid range and absolutely no bass at lower volumes. It produces produces bright unpleasant sound that isn't meaningfully affected by the tone switch on the back of the speaker. For a $29.95, basic radio this wouldn't be an issue, but this alarm radio is marketed as though it offers breakthrough sound quality. It doesn't. I own two small Bluetooth speakers that produce excellent sound (TDK A33, Logitech S715) and used the Boston acoustics solo alarm radio (which I only stopped using because the built in backup battery stopped holding a charge) and this radio in no way compares to any of them. The sound quality of this radio does not compete with a nice (not necessarily expensive) Bluetooth speaker.
-Buttons are small and invisible at night - I now have to turn on a light to change the alarm - frustrating.
-The display doesn't automatically dim
-Price (only an issue because of below average sound quality)

Overall:
This is not a great Bluetooth speaker with alarm functions, it is an above average alarm with a basic speaker. For people that want a radio alarm there really aren't a lot of options at this price point as most are using their phones and tablets for this function. I'm not going to return mine, not because I'm thrilled with the product, but because my wife threw away the box. I seriously considered buying the Yamaha TSX-B72 (and still am). Obviously the price difference between the two is significant but it may be worth it for the improved sound quality alone.
Sound Quality
dbDIYFebruary 15, 2016
This review is for folks concerned with sound quality. I work in live sound and do a fair amount of recording. I do not identify as an "audiophile."

I purchased this clock radio for use in a small apartment bedroom with poor acoustics. Normally I would opt for a full stereo system, but the high-frequency reflections in the room make that impossible without room treatment. I opted to replace my ancient clock radio with a bluetooth enabled model for Spotify Premium streaming, and FM tuner use.

Initial thoughts on audio quality:

This thing sounds *pretty* good. Don't expect any bass under 100hz, and 3khz to 5khz is definitely hyped (although the room is exaggerating that problem). I was able to "corner load" the clock radio on a desk in the corner of the room and that helped fill out the low end a bit.

There are 3 EQ options - normal, bright, and "warm." Bright accentuates the high frequencies and did not work well in my room. Normal sounds good, but was a bit too hyped in the upper-midrange. I settled on "warm," which seems to accentuate the lower midrange (500hz-ish) and attenuate the upper-midrange frequencies. It sounds a little dull compared to normal in my room, but it's the better of the two options. I wish this radio had a full 3-band EQ, but ultimately I'm satisfied with the sound quality for the price.

Thoughts on usability:

There are some reviews that complain about how difficult this thing is to use - that has not been my experience so far. The manual provides step by step instructions going through each function, and the layout and button functions are sensible.

Features:

I like the ability to set up 2 separate alarms with the option to set them for weekdays, weekends, a specific day, or every day. You can wake up to an alarm, FM radio, or Bluetooth (haven't tried this yet), and you can easily set the volume using the digital display. The radio fades up to the set volume and won't startle you awake.

The FM radio sounds OK - not the best tuner in the world but it's tricky to get good FM reception in my room anyways. The absence of an AM tuner doesn't matter much to me.

Bluetooth streaming works well, and pairing is simple.

Overall I'm happy with this purchase. Don't expect stellar sound quality, but for what it is (a tiny clock radio), I'm impressed.
This piece seemed like a perfect blend

This Sound Rise product, the Soundfreaq, is a pleasant package all around.

You'll spend more time tracking the package for arrival than you will setting it up. The main reason I purchased the Sounfreaq was because I wanted a true alternative to Bose's Wave Radio. Not wanting to put a penny into Bose's marketing coffers, I came across this piece after considering Tivoli, Bose, and iHome offerings.

This piece seemed like a perfect blend, a virtual jack of all trades, between all of them. With the styling, sound quality, and amenities, this little clock has quickly turned into one of those "glad I bought it" feel good purchases.

I had originally purchased the unit for my mother as a new simple to use piece for Christmas. Well...confession time...it never made it to her. My evil heart said, to hell with her. She's retired, what does she need an alarm clock for?

I'm glad I lost my scruples.

From the dimming display that puts out a highly customizable light level to suit one's comfort level at night, the more than adequate sound quality of the single ported small driver, to the simple styling, and the ease of use...

...my mom will never know that I stole her Christmas present and I don't even feel bad.

Anyone going to hell with me? I'm driving the bus!
