I've only tried pushing the button and it emits a loud noise & sounds like it would hurt. I didn't try it on myself or anyone else. When you press the button the 2nd time, it doesn't sound like it's as powerful. It has to be charged usually after you push the button once or twice, so make sure it's fully charged
